What people are saying about Kalabaka
Alltogether I enjoyed the trip, the drive was long, but our guide was giving us information on the Mount Olympus we passed, How its related to the God Zeus and How Alexander the great assembled his armies. I enjoyed the trip and the Beauty to see in Greece. A really good opportunity to Escape The City Life and see something breathtaking in nature. We went to 2 Monasteries as promised. And in between we went to a really nice Spot to take pictures. It was basically the highland of taking pictures. The guys should make sure to wear pants for the monasteries, based on their religious beliefs.
The geological formations in this area are quite extraordinary. The several monasteries on mountain peaks illustrate the monks' futile efforts to get physically closer to their god.
toured 2 monasteries- saw 6- long day with train- at Athens- make sure you ask which track train is leaving from- no information on the monitor- tour guide pick us up and delivered us back to station no problem. If you want food or drink- on the train or hike into town-- but it was easy. Lots of stairs with the monasteries-- be prepared but plenty of time to explore. Well worth the effort.
The guide& the driver were both good. Well explained about the history of Meteora and took us to many places where we can have a good photos.... very accomodating & friendly.... highly recommended
This was a great trip. The train ride can be a little long but it was definitely a scenic route. The guide and his bus were waiting right outside. We took a quick 15 coffee and snack break at a local cafe and headed on way to the monasteries. We visited two of the monasteries (because they have shorter hours during the winter season so we can only visit 2) but we were able to stop by a lot of different view points to get great pictures of all the others. Note that walking up to the monasteries isn’t for the faint of heart. I’m a fairly healthy 30 year old and it was a bit rough for me. As long as you can pace yourself you should be fine. Overall it was a great experience and was definitely worth the visit.
