Full description
Meet your guide at the trailhead in the Bridger-Teton National Forest. Your perfectly chosen horse will be there, saddled and ready. Receive instructions about general horseback safety, and how to ride your horse in the mountains. Stirrups will be adjusted for each rider, your hearty prepared lunch will get loaded into your saddlebags, and you will set off on your adventure.

Manoeuvre up and down hills, across mountain streams and climb to vistas with panoramic views. Along the journey there will be time to stop for photos, or to spot wildlife and birds. Visit a Wyoming hunting camp that features a historic trapper and prospector cabin. In addition to the cabin, you will have some free time to see the furnished tents and teepees, the outdoor sauna, and lounge in the camp hammock.

After you soak in the beauty of the magnificent Gros Ventre Mountain Range, mount up for the return ride. Travel a different route through the untamed landscape, back to the starting point. This venture will build confidence for less experienced riders, yet has enough challenge for seasoned riders seeking an adventure.

Prepare for the activity

Meeting point

Allow about 1 hour to travel from Jackson, Wyoming. From Jackson, take Rt 191/189 South. At the circle at Hoback Junction (approx. 11 miles out of Jackson), go left toward Pinedale. You will travel through the beautiful Hoback Canyon. When you come out of the Canyon, you will go through the tiny village of Bondurant. Look for the Post Office and Branding Iron Café on the left, around mile marker 139. Use this as a landmark. Go 2-3 miles further, and look for a brown sign that says North Fork Fisherman’s Cr on the right side of the road. It is a left turn onto a dirt/gravel road. (Directly across Hwy 191 from our turn is a pull off and sign that says Hoback Ranches.) Turn left onto North Fork Fishermans Creek Road, and enter the Bridger-Teton National Forest. Follow this about 3.5+ miles (it will seem longer) and look for a pull in area on the left. This is the trailhead. You will cross two cattle guards on your way and it is a parking area with a forestry sign for Fisherman Lake.
