Top sights in Budapest
Budapest's striking parliament building, which took 1,000 workers 13 years to complete, on the banks of the Danube in Pest, is the third largest in Euorpe. Be it day or night, or viewed from a distance in hilly Buda, this iconic symbol is a sight to behold.
Imre Steindl submitted his plans upon the official call for a parliament building in 1880. The Gothic Revival design reflects the inspiration he found in the Palace of Westminster.
90 statues on the outer walls reflect Hungarian monarchs and military commanders. Though not typical in Gothic design, the dome rises 314 feet from the center of the building.
The lavish décor brims with the influences of Renaissance and Baroque. The Natonal Library, which holds 500,000 volumes, and the Hungarian Coronation Regalia are also inside.
These stairs lead to the Dome Hall, amid a stunning setting of allegorical ceilng frescoes, which illustrate the governing of the country, and 16 statues holding coronation symbols.
Parliamentary sessions with both houses occur below the interior of the dome, which rises 88 feet overhead. The statues and coat of arms of 16 rulers line the walls of the hall.

What people are saying about Hungarian Parliament Building
We got there around 20 minutes before hour slot (email states boarding opens 30min before). We were told we couldn't travel, the boat was full. The local company who provides the service doesn't know what GetYourG sells. So they sell themselves locally as much as they can and this causes overbooking. Be careful with this. We did the boat trip at 21.00 mid August and it's really nice to see the city and its light at night. Totally recommended. There is an audio guide playing via speakers. If you are outside you can't understand it due to the noise of the boat motor. I think it's OK if you are inside.
I enjoyed seeing Budapest and the main guide was knowledgeable but this was booked as an English tour and he had to repeat everything in Spanish which became quite confusing and annoying (for both sets of audiences) as you missed things that were already in the rear view. The English guide at the city itself was difficult to understand. It would be good to include in the tour description how long is the ride, whether you stop for food and how long you are actually in the city.
Our guide was very knowledgeable and we enjoyed our tour around the Parliament House. The gold decor is extremely oppulent. We were lucky to see the changing of the guard in the dome for the crown security and it was very memorable
We really enjoyed this. The boat was comfortable and the staff were really friendly and helpful, even bringing blankets out for anyone who wanted one. Interesting commentary. The river is beautiful at night, really recommend this.
Great tour and great guide. Guide knew about Budapest very well and was clear in explaining things. We're taken by coach to the different places which was good because it meant we covered so much more ground than if we walked.
