Full description
Start your tour with a convenient pick-up service from your accommodation in Edinburgh. Hop-aboard your air-conditioned coach and head to your first location of the day, the Blackness Castle. Explore the rich history within the castle walls and learn of its multi-functional history as a lordly residence, garrison fortress and state prison. Fans of Outlander may also recognize that the exterior posed as Fort William, the foreboding headquarters of Black Jack Randall. Continue on your tour to Culross, several parts of Culross are used to depict the village of Cranesmuir, predominantly for season 1 of Outlander. During your time here you will notice many of the scenes come to life as you step into the actual shooting location of the show.

Visit the Linlithgow Palace, a place with hugely impressive ruins that were the birthplace of several monarchs, but the most notable was Mary Queen of Scots. It is used as the set for the infamous Wentworth Prison in Outlander. This is where Jamie was held prisoner and tortured by Black Jack Randall, one of the most intense scenes filmed during the TV series. Take a visit to Callendar House, the final stop of the day. Callendar House, which dates from the 14th-century is set in the beautiful grounds of Callendar Park. A stroll around the lovely interior wouldn’t be complete without taking a look at the restored 1825 kitchen. Outlander fans may again recognize this kitchen as the bloody (but well-deserved!) climax to the episode from season 2 ‘Vengeance is Mine’.

Throughout the day, you will also get to visit such iconic locations such as the Doune Castle, Midhope Castle and the Forth Bridges. You will end your day in comfort with a trip back to your accommodation in Edinburgh. On returning to Edinburgh you may want to be dropped off at Bake House Close, featured in Series 3 of "Outlander" as Jamie's Print house.

Magnificent !

Nice day with our guide Jamie, we had enough time to visit the castles and the various filming locations. On the way, the guide gave us a lot of information on Scotland and its history, the only downside: you have to know English to understand what he says (no audio guide) However even without understanding, we discover the magnificent Scottish landscapes. Hotel pickup is a plus, especially if you don't know the city of Edinburgh.

Our own Jamie to guide us.

The Outlander tour was fantastic and Jamie our guide..yes a redhead in a kilt..was so informative about Scotland's history. Best bit was Lallybroch as it looks exactly as it does when Clare goes there before she returns through the stones to find Jamie. I got quite emotional! Not sure all the extras to get into the castles were value for money though.
