Full description
Go on a 2-hour journey through most of the 20th-century history of both Dubrovnik and Croatia. Starting with the collapse of Austro-Hungarian Empire in World War I, this tour provides an insight into the complicated 20th century of the Balkan region.

The fascist rule in World War II was marked by racial laws and concentration camps. Beautiful forts turned into torture chambers, with prosecution and death lurking on every corner. The resistance partisan movement organized by the Communist Party led by Tito started a civil war against fascists. Communist Yugoslavia reunited with the Southern Slavic nations, and it's dictator Tito became one of the most prominent politicians of the Cold War. Communism in Croatia was brought to an end through the disastrous Homeland War. The Siege of Dubrovnik was one of the bloodiest battles of the war, being an attack on both the people and culture of Croatia.

The tour begins from Luza Square in front of Orlando's Column. From there it will follow two parallel storylines: the first one presenting the 20th century of both Dubrovnik and Croatia, and the second one picturing the bombing of Dubrovnik in the Croatian Homeland War. Multimedia is provided by a licensed guide, and your tour also includes a visit to the Memorial Room of the Dubrovnik Defenders.
