5 attractions no Dublin day trip would be complete without

We'd recommend doublin' your time in the Irish capital, but if you really do have just a day to spend here, you'll have some great craic (pronounced: crack) working a day tour around these five Dublin faves!

Christ Church Cathedral

Christ Church Cathedral

St. Patrick's is also worth touring, but if your excursion coincides, don't miss medieval Christ Church's choral evensongs on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and weekends.

Phoenix Park

Phoenix Park

Europe's largest walled city park is home to Áras an Uachtaráin–home to the Irish president. You can also enjoy a wander around the People's Gardens and the old Magazine Fort.

Dublin Castle

Dublin Castle

This unusual castle off Dame Street is worth visiting for many reasons, not least because its garden was once home to the Dubh Linn (dark pool) that gave the city its name!

Kilmainham Gaol

Kilmainham Gaol

Kilmainham is the place to visit if you want to learn about Ireland's struggle for independence. Now a museum, many significant revolutionaries were imprisoned and executed here.

Dublin Writers Museum

Dublin Writers Museum

In a city of exemplary museums, you might only have time for a quick one. Why not immerse yourself in its great literary reputation by learning more about Joyce and Yeats, et al?

Planning Your Visit

How to get to the city center from Dublin cruise port?

The cruise port is just over a mile from the city center, and there is an express bus service that should only take about 15 minutes. Visitors can also take the number 53 public bus, pick up a cab at the taxi rank, or even take a hop on hop off bus directly from the terminal for an easy jaunt around the sights and then back again!

How to get around Dublin?

Dublin's public transport system can be pretty tricky for newcomers to grasp. Fortunately, most areas of interest can be reached pretty quickly by foot. If you really plan on cramming a lot in (and can afford it!) then you'll have no problem hailing a cab. Be aware, though: as well as the initial fare, an extra euro will be added on per passenger.

What people are saying about Dublin

Wild Rover Tours is THE way to go to visit the Giant's Causeway

This was an excellent tour with our wonderful tour guide J.P. and driver Paulo. They were very personable and friendly. They shared a lot of fun jokes, legends, and history of Ireland. There seemed to be plenty of time for each stop. My friend and I choose to do the Black Cab Taxi tour and I cannot recommend it enough. It was informative and gave great insight on the history of the area through the eyes of a local. Our next stop was the Giant's Causeway which you cannot miss if you are visiting the Island! There was road construction the day we went and had to take a detour to get to the Causeway. However, due to this we were able to see Dunluce Castle! The Causeway is incredibly beautiful and unlike anywhere else in the world! The next stop at Carrick-A-Rede Rope Bridge is phenomenal! The water is a striking combination of cobalt and turquoise blue. You can even see Scotland in the distance. If the weather is fair and you get the opportunity to cross the bridge, do it!

Professional and knowledgeable team. Must see stops in Ireland.

My friend and I went on this tour and had an excellent time. This tour was an excellent way to see the western coast of Ireland for the day. The cliffs are beautiful. I certainly could have spent more time here, but for a stop on a day trip, we had plenty of time. Our next stop at the Burren was lovely. The lunar-like landscape is incredible and unique. We drove along the Wild Atlantic Way and we amazed by the beautiful coastline of western Ireland. Our stop in Galway gave us plenty of time to shop and see the city. This tour was a nice sample of the scenery of Ireland. I would love to go back to many of the places we stopped on the tour and spend a few days exploring them. Our tour guide was funny and knowledgeable of the legends, as well as the history of Ireland. Our driver was professional and courteous. Excellent way to see beautiful sights of Ireland.

This trip is a must-do when visiting Ireland!

Going on this trip was my favorite activity when I visited Ireland! Our bus driver Finton was incredibly funny and gave us so much insight on the history and culture of the country. Finton kept the entire trip from Dublin to the Cliffs very entertaining as he talked about things that US presidents have done when visiting Ireland, famous golf courses, the oldest pub in Ireland, etc.. We made a few designated stops throughout the journey to use the restroom, see a historic castle, and get food. The bus was very comfortable and had complimentary WiFi which was great. When we arrived at the Cliffs of Moher, we were able to leave extra personal items on the bus and I felt really safe doing so. I would HIGHLY recommend this experience to anyone who is planning to visit the Cliffs of Moher with good company.

Amazing once-is-not-enough tour with Finn McCool

I’ve been dreaming to visit the westernmost coastal line of Ireland to see wild atlantic way, especially the Cliffs of Moher where appear in the movie of Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. Finn McCool tours brought this dream to me with excellence service. Captain John and Derek are the absolute best guides. The tour took 13 hours in total. It started from Dublin - Kilmacduagh monastery - Cliffs of Moher - The Burren - Galway city - Dublin. Time duration is quiet enough to explore each stop. Folk music and movie were played during the tour based on the theme of next stop. This is unforgettable tour. I’m grateful, well done team!

Very beautiful, funny and informative trip

I'd always book it again... the guide was great and he had great knowledge of the history of Ireland and told us some tales, myths and real facts and added a bit of black humor to it but in a awesome way!! The bus driver was also funny and cool!! The trip itself is very worth it... you see beautiful landscapes and coast views... and the attractions on top of it are really really seeable... nothing for ppl with great handycaps though...
