5 attractions no Dublin day trip would be complete without

We'd recommend doublin' your time in the Irish capital, but if you really do have just a day to spend here, you'll have some great craic (pronounced: crack) working a day tour around these five Dublin faves!

Christ Church Cathedral

Christ Church Cathedral

St. Patrick's is also worth touring, but if your excursion coincides, don't miss medieval Christ Church's choral evensongs on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and weekends.

Phoenix Park

Phoenix Park

Europe's largest walled city park is home to Áras an Uachtaráin–home to the Irish president. You can also enjoy a wander around the People's Gardens and the old Magazine Fort.

Dublin Castle

Dublin Castle

This unusual castle off Dame Street is worth visiting for many reasons, not least because its garden was once home to the Dubh Linn (dark pool) that gave the city its name!

Kilmainham Gaol

Kilmainham Gaol

Kilmainham is the place to visit if you want to learn about Ireland's struggle for independence. Now a museum, many significant revolutionaries were imprisoned and executed here.

Dublin Writers Museum

Dublin Writers Museum

In a city of exemplary museums, you might only have time for a quick one. Why not immerse yourself in its great literary reputation by learning more about Joyce and Yeats, et al?

Planning Your Visit

How to get to the city center from Dublin cruise port?

The cruise port is just over a mile from the city center, and there is an express bus service that should only take about 15 minutes. Visitors can also take the number 53 public bus, pick up a cab at the taxi rank, or even take a hop on hop off bus directly from the terminal for an easy jaunt around the sights and then back again!

How to get around Dublin?

Dublin's public transport system can be pretty tricky for newcomers to grasp. Fortunately, most areas of interest can be reached pretty quickly by foot. If you really plan on cramming a lot in (and can afford it!) then you'll have no problem hailing a cab. Be aware, though: as well as the initial fare, an extra euro will be added on per passenger.

What people are saying about Dublin

Lovely interesting day, great tour leader Trevor and bus driver Vlad.

If you want to find out at least something from Irish history, go to that tour, you find out information not only about Newgrange and Hill of Tara.

Excellent tour with experienced ans funny guide

It was a full packed long tour but well managed. Our guide Daniel and driver Cap. John's were very funny and entertaining and knowledgeable too. Daniel sung a beautiful song and played guitar. This was something unexpected. The bus was also pretty comfortable. I would highly recommend. Mc. Finn cool tours rocks.

Kevin ( the tour guide ) was wonderful!! Entire day was so enjoyable!!

Each stop was fantastic! I would highly recommend this tour to anyone whether a GOT fan or not ! Absolutely brilliant.

Amazing landscapes with an amazing crew.

I totally recommend Finn McCoolTours. The tour is very well planned to take maximum advantage of the time. I went on the Derek D. and Yuri bus and I totally recommend it. Derek will tell you about Ireland history in stages and also information to the places you are visiting. Along the way Derek will also play some Irish songs (2-3 songs) with his “little guitar” One thing I really liked is that Derek it's very clear with the timings of leaving, he says them on 4 different languages, writes it on a paper, and when he is pronouncing it on english, he speaks slowly and clearly, making enfasis on fif-TEEN or fif-TY which is a small detail but makes a huge difference. I went with them on two tours and in both of them people were always in time which gave us extra time visiting the city. In conclusion, I totally recommend this tour, and if I had to take it again I would totally go with Derek D. and Yuri again, in the end you will go how singing shaaaalala la la, and a dinga dinga dong!
