Full description
Experience the best travel stories for yourself! Join a local expert and uncover hidden gems on this Lonely Planet Experience.

Meet your guide and the rest of the group at the local partner’s office in Portland, then set out towards Columbia Gorge where a day of adventure awaits. Upon arrival at the gorge, which is home to centuries-old trees, pounding waterfalls, majestic eagles, delicate ferns, flowers, and fungus, ancient rocks, forest frogs, and much more, you’ll feel as if you are entering a mythical world like no other.

The hike takes you to the most impressive viewpoints and headlining waterfalls, such as the unmissable Multnomah Falls, the tallest in Oregon. Weather permitting, you can also visit the unusual and visually stunning Vista House, an idyllic rest stop on a dramatic rocky outcrop. There’s also time to explore a few of the lesser visited waterfalls, which are only accessible on small group tours.

The tour is the perfect opportunity to get a snapshot of Oregon’s stunning landscapes and to immerse yourself in the tranquility of nature. You will return to Portland with beautiful photos, as well as a deeper sense of the majesty of the world just outside the city’s urban center.
