I had seen a television documentary about the Colosseum so knew quite a lot about it but there's nothing like waling round it and seeing how it was built. I was disappointed that my audio player ran out before I visited the Palatine Hill because I found this fascinating. I asked for a refund but was refused. I hadn't been warned that the player only lasted for 2 hours and would have gone to the Palatine Hill before the Forum had I known. The English was excellent and I found both places very interesting and could have stayed longer. Well worth a visit.
It was a joy skipping past the huge line at the Colosseum. We got in with no hassle and it took around 10minutes max, versus some people who had been waiting in line for hours. The Colosseum/Palatine Hill/Roman Forum were incredible. So worth the money and would do it all again in a heartbeat as there is a vast amount of things to see at Palatine Hill and the Roman Forum, could spend a whole day just at those two sights.
This visit would have been so much better if we hadn't been harassed outside by people offering to sell us tickets, be our guides, etc. Also, we tried to go into the Forum the next day as we ran out of time. You CANNOT get into the Forum for free, no matter what Trip Advisor tells you! If we'd known this we would have made the effort to go there the same day as the Colosseum and Palatine Hill.
It was so easy to purchase and to redeem. My first time in Italy so I was a bit skeptical that this would work, but all the attendants at the Colosseum seemed to know this deal when i presented my voucher. They knew where to directed me. I saw everything and finished enjoying the experience while the same people without the skip the line tickets were still in line.
I am not sure how anyone can wait on the lines for these attractions. They are hundreds of people long- it must take all day to get in to see the Colosseum. Unless you have unlimited time and don't mind wasting it standing on line - I highly recommend getting advance tickets. We were inside within 5 minutes (after security check line).
