Top sights in Dubai
The most breathtaking view in Dubai is from the top of the Burj Khalifa, but how do you take a photo that illustrates just how tall the world's tallest building is? Here are our top five spots in Dubai for taking amazing photos of this architectural giant.
The Palm Islands are the two artificial islands off the coast of Dubai. You'll get incredible views across the marina, looking back at the city.
From the Waterfall Entrance on the Lower Ground level of the Dubai Mall, the world's biggest mall, you get two views at once: the Burj Khalifa and the romantic Dubai Fountains water show.
Jumeirah is known as the Beverly Hills of Dubai. This public beach stretches along the south coast from the junction of the Palm Jumeirah Island.
Most lounges inside this luxury hotel offer brilliant vistas of the Burj Khalifa. We suggest afternoon tea on the Risala terrace, or drinks in the Neos sky lounge (on the 63rd floor).
Located 3 kilometers from the Burj Khalifa, this green space offers a dose of tranquility within the city - and unique photos looking back across the lake, towards Dubai's skyscrapers.
Be patient and get creative. The Burj Khalifa is so tall that it will look out of proportion compared to almost everything else in the city! This gives you a serious chance to go on a photography mission, and a really fun excuse to explore all that Dubai has to offer (perhaps with an organized tour!).
Once you've taken an incredible photo, make sure you go to the At The Top observation deck inside Burj Khalifa and celebrate. Tip: Buy a skip-the-line ticket in order to avoid up to 1.5-hour wait times.
The summer season will be cheapest, but it will also be incredibly hot. From November to April, the temperatures will be plenty warm for the beach without being too overwhelming. One additional planning tip: the holy month of Ramadan (when many Dubai locals will be fasting from dawn until dusk) has a big impact on the city's tourist hotspots.
- When should I visit?
- Open daily, 24 hours
- Is it expensive?
- The prices vary based on time of day, ticket time and additional tour options.
- Will I need a guide?
- If you want one, of course! Whether you want to explore the city of Dubai, or specifically learn more about the architecture from the At The Top observation deck at the Burj Khalifa, there is a helpful tour guide to suit your needs.
- How to get there
- The Burj Khalifa is located in the heart of Dubai. Standing high at 163 floors tall, you won't be able to miss it.
- Additional information
- FYI: The average wait time is 1.5 hours for tickets purchased at the door.
- Make a note that the month of Ramadan will affect attraction opening times. Plan ahead when making travel plans to Dubai.
What people are saying about Burj Khalifa
The aquarium as many people have said is rather disappointing, just a short tunnel you walk down with the sea creatures swimming around. The underwater zoo was of more interest and many 10-13 year old children seemed happy enough. I enjoyed the visitation of the Burj Kahlifa as i didn't want to leave the country without visiting its land mark but everything is super expensive! They took a picture of us there and the price was laughable, i swiftly declined. I would say the visitation of the building is not really for children unless they have an interest in such things, as mine were not really impressed and after all the qeueing all they wanted to do was sit down somewhere. Which made it seem a huge waste of money bringing them. They more enjoyed watching the dancing fountains outside the dubai mall (which is free!)
The Burj Khalifa was on the list of Dubai must-do activities, but I only booked at the last minute. A recommendation from people met on a desert tour was "do the 148th floor". That was one of the best pieces of travel advice that I could have been given. It's not cheap, but the beat-the-queue process coupled with the calm and tranquility of the skylounge shifted the experience up more than just 23 floors. I was able to relax, drink coffee, view quietly, take as many photos as I wanted, and get real value from the time at the top. The one tip I would give to others: allow plenty of time on the way in and out. There are truly interesting displays at ground level, and they are easy to be rushed-through.
Tried to purchase ticket to level 124/5 at the desk and the lady sold us tickets to Level 148 at 555Aed about £125 p person was told this was not available. She was very rude as we requested a refund which she did and someone told us we could purchase the £35 ticket online. Lady at information desk connected us onto wifi and we paid £70 for 2 to 124 level queued and you should have seen her face this was all done in about 10 mins. The day was hazy and once up there it was worth it for £35 but not for £125 they prey on people being ignorant.
This is a ‘must see’ attraction. Myself, my wife and my 16 year old son booked this through GET YOUR GUIDE and from start to finish it was exceptionally handled / managed. The visit to the Burj Khalifa is quite an atomising visit with breathtaking views at night at the 124th floor. I would certainly visit this again in the future and would definitely use GYG again. Thanks very much
Loved the views from 148, so much less crowded. So glad we booked VIP fast track tickets, the non VIP queue to get down the tower from 125 floor was huge, one group asking if they could use the stairs!! Would recommend not doing this tour at the weekend. Lovely to see the fountain show at night from above too. Turn up early!
