Full description
A small river flowed from a source in the foothills of Lycabettus through the ancient Agora to the archaeological site of Kerameikos. Part of the river was unearthed during the excavation of the Athens Metro.

Ilissos was a river god of Green antiquity and of great importance for ancient Athenians. Now the River named after him lies beyond the city but, following its route with your guide on this 3-hour walk, you’ll be able to imagine the waters flowing once again.

The Athens Riverside experience is a walk through unspoiled Athens. You’ll see a completely different side of the city and you’ll be supporting Urban Athens Collective and groups that are collaborating to save areas such as the group Ilissos-sos.

Walk along hidden paths, and learn about past and present of Athens. Encounter ancient sanctuaries dedicated to mysterious gods and see the remains of ancient Athenian neighborhoods. Visit Pnyx Hill, Philoppapos Hill, and the Ilissos riverside.
