I would definitely recommend this tour, and if you only have one spare day for a trip while you're in Athens, I would make it this tour :-) It was a holiday highlight. Meteora was amazing and the views were awesome. Our tour guides, George and Jannis were lovely. The commentary was really informative and they were more than happy to take photos while you were there. I was really happy with the stop offs that we did on the tour - the hermit caves, followed by multiple stops for photos and two monasteries. We had a lovely day! It is a long day, but well worth it, and the tour wasn't as physically tiring as I expecting, due to the bus / group being fairly small and not having to walk for hours, which is a bonus. Thank you to George and Janni for a lovely time!
Great organization by travel company, train tickets received electronically a few days before trip and tour bus was waiting for us upon arrival to Meteora. Long day but well worth it for the spectacular views (plus the town was a little sleepy not sure if it would be worth staying overnight). The guide was informative and funny while he provided commentary on the bus between picture spots and monasteries. Tips: there are dress codes (not explicitly mentioned) girls needed to wear skirts and cover shoulders (shawls and sarongs were provided at entrances for free) while guys had to have pants that went below the knee where the nuns were, they would not let them use sarongs & were quite strict - would pack a pair of jeans to be able to go in.
This was a great trip. The train ride can be a little long but it was definitely a scenic route. The guide and his bus were waiting right outside. We took a quick 15 coffee and snack break at a local cafe and headed on way to the monasteries. We visited two of the monasteries (because they have shorter hours during the winter season so we can only visit 2) but we were able to stop by a lot of different view points to get great pictures of all the others. Note that walking up to the monasteries isn’t for the faint of heart. I’m a fairly healthy 30 year old and it was a bit rough for me. As long as you can pace yourself you should be fine. Overall it was a great experience and was definitely worth the visit.
If you are visiting Greece, you HAVE to visit Meteora. One of the best days of our trip to Greece, the organization was perfect, we got everything on time (train tickets, reminders of the departure time, gathering point...etc). The bus was very comfortable. The guide and the driver were perfect and very nice, they provide us with all the information we needed, they were great photographers too ;) . This place is amazing. Do not hesitate and book your trip, you won't regret it!!
toured 2 monasteries- saw 6- long day with train- at Athens- make sure you ask which track train is leaving from- no information on the monitor- tour guide pick us up and delivered us back to station no problem. If you want food or drink- on the train or hike into town-- but it was easy. Lots of stairs with the monasteries-- be prepared but plenty of time to explore. Well worth the effort.
