Top sights in Athens
The Acropolis was the center of Athenian culture and worship for millenia. As the heart of Western civilization, it's now one of the world's foremost heritage sites and an essential addition to any sightseer's bucket list. Here are a few reasons why.
The limestone hill's shallow caves and steep slopes provided prime Neolithic real estate, and its freshwater springs may have inspired the myth of Athena – a fertility goddess!
Acropolis means "highest point" and as the most fortified site, became the seat of Athenian kings until the realities of the republic pushed administrative buildings further out.
It had been a dedicated site of worship for just 30 years before being sacked by the Persians in 480BC. Afterwards, Pericles began a construction project that lasted 50 years!
The Parthenon was used as an Ottoman garrison from 1458. During the Morean War, Venetian artillery blew its gunpowder supply and significantly damaged the Acropolis' temples.
The archaeological site is still being partly restored, but you'll see the Parthenon, Erechtheion, Temple of Athena Nike, and the Propylaea gateway among the ruins on your tour!
Admission prices begin at €12 (€6 concessions). Skip the lines by booking a tour in advance!

What people are saying about Acropolis of Athens
We first asked the live tour guides outside Acropolis. They were absurdly expensive (60 euros per person). Then I checked this app. We bought the tickets with audio guide. A local representative rang immediately. He explained what to do. He was very polite. We used our e-tickets for 5 different sites with no problem. The audio guide was useful but not very comprehensive. Still, considering you only remember a few points from each tour, I would definetely buy audio guides from this app/website for other cities and attractions.
The bus was great and it was wonderful that the upper deck was covered on some of the buses. The drivers were very helpful. The only problem we had was that we booked three different routes and when we checked in they told us we were only eligible for two routes. I showed them my ticket which clearly showed three and they told me again no, it was only two. I wanted to go to the beaches and to the lake but they said that was not included even though it was on the ticket I got through your website.
We did this tour sept 7th 2019. Our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable (Fotini) and professional. It’s organized in a way to optimize your time to see the key highlights of the acropolis and surrounding without waisting lineups and avoiding crowds. Transportation extremely comfortable. We were a group of 4 (two adults and two children), perfect for family. Highly recommend it.
We learned a lot and enjoyed our guide’s descriptions of what the sites looked like when they were in use. She had a lot of good suggestions about other sites in Athens also. I just wish that we had known in advance what sites we would visit. We bought the combo tickets the previous day and visited two of the sites already, so had to buy another entrance ticket for those.
It was a great idea to have a guide, one of the best parts: skipping the lines. Basilisks was very patient and she has a great knowledge about the tour she gave us a lot of information and taking breaks is strategic places and moments. Please, advise in the website that we have to buy the entrance tickets separated of this services.
