This was an extraordinary adventure. It wasn’t easy, but it’s not as hard as many suggest. I’m fairly overweight and did just fine, though I do hike frequently. The guides were spectacular and set a reasonable pace with lots of breaks on the inclines. I will say that if your knees or ankles are bad, this might not be the best choice since the crampons exacerbate those issues.

We were picked up between 7.30am and 8am and driven from El Calafate to the Kayak entry point in La Leona river the drive was about 1hr to 1hr 10minutes. I suggest travelling in the gear you will wear for Kayaking. We quickly put on the Kayak gear and after a swift briefing Kayaked downriver for circa 12km. This took just over an hour. One changed into hiking gear we walked into the hills to see remains from the petrified forest and the dinosaur bones. The hike was circa 3km but took an hour due to stops to discuss things and the terrains being soft and hilly. We had lunch at the top of a hill but still in shelter from the wind before heading back to the Kayaks for a short kayak back across the river to the collection point. The guides were very nice, informative and skilled. The river was mostly calm and we felt safe for the whole trip. This is an easy trip so no experience with the Kayak is necessary. Even so it was still fun and tye petrified forest was unique.

Fantastic tour! Great experience hiking on the Glacier. An absolute must do when in the El Calafate area. The tour starts slow with ca 1.5-2h of travel to the park. In the park there was a brief stop for photos at a viewpoint and another, longer stop at the balconies where you can see the front of the glacier - and with luck pieces falling into the lake. After that we got on a boat and crossed the lake to start the glacier hike. It is a good 30min hike up, next to the glacier with two stops: At the first everybody gets harness and helmet, and on the second, close to getting onto the glacier, crampons are fitted. Hiking on the glacier was a great experience and we had enough time on it to exhaust everybody. The hike back, same path as coming up, felt longer than before and everybody was super happy when sipping their whiskey on the boat back. Must bring: Sunscreen!! The reflection from the ice makes the UV light super intense.
