Full description
This vaults tour takes you beneath the streets of Edinburgh's Old Town into a dimly lit space that many considered to be haunted. Your 1-hour tour visits the vaults of the South Bridge that date back to the 1700s. These are the same vaults mentioned on Most Haunted Live as one of the scariest places on earth. Learn how the vaults been used over the years, and the living conditions endured by the poor and homeless residents who frequented them. The darker side of Edinburgh's history will unfold as you wander through the candle-lit underground area. From your costumed guide, you'll hear about the Burke and Hare murders and the persecution of witches. Discover the characters who stalked the streets of Edinburgh, and the paranormal stories associated with the vaults.  The Haunted Vaults tour option will cover more paranormal and ghost stories. You will also visit our torture exhibition, to explore how and why these items were used.

Sophie, our guide was absolutely brilliant: articulate, animated, enthusiastic, funny, passionate and so knowledgable. The tour itself was both interesting and harrowing. Sophie didn’t shy away from the gruesome, and undoubtedly accurate details of life in Edinburgh in the 17th century. I have since recommended your tours and Sophie in particular to a waiter we talked to soon after our tour ended who is booking an underground tour next week and a friend travelling to Edinburgh soon. Thanks Sophie. I forgive you for picking on me as a potential witch in the torture chamber

A really enjoyable, informative and engaging tour! We enjoyed our time with Stewart a lot and he was very personable. It was slightly scarier than we had anticipated it being, and there were a few jump scares which was not to our tastes, but that's more of a personal preference! The scope of history and knowledge was fantastic and we came away feeling like we'd learnt a lot!

An excellent experience - our guide was amazing he knew so much. We learnt about some history of Edinburgh before entering the vaults and then inside the vaults he was captivating with his stories and history. It was the best part of our trip to Edinburgh and something we will always remember.
