Full description

Explore the beauty of Scotland’s Highlands on a 12-hour scenic driving tour by comfortable coach. See historic sights and unforgettable landscapes on this guided day trip from Edinburgh.

Following pickup from central Edinburgh, you will head towards Stirling, catching views of the Castle and Wallace Monument. Continue towards Callander, and stop for morning coffee, and the chance to meet “Hamish the Hairy Coo.” Head northwards over Rannoch Moor, and reach the dark, brooding Pass of Glencoe. Stop to learn the story of the massacre of 1692, before crossing Loch Leven. Stop for lunch near Fort William, then follow the Caledonian Canal up the Great Glen to Loch Ness. Here, you have the option to cruise on the Loch for approximately 1 hour, or relax in the tranquil village on its banks. After Loch Ness you will head South East and take in magnificent views of Loch Laggan. Marvel at the magnificent Blair Castle, home of the Dukes of Atholl for over 700 years, before moving onto Pitlochry, a delightful Victorian resort town. Then, head south through Fife, and cross the Forth next to the amazing Forth Bridge, before arriving back in Edinburgh.

Really enjoyed myself. Our driver and guide Brian was a pleasure to spend the day with and his knowledge of Scotland’s history obviously deeply personal to him. I sat up front and I was in awe of his ability to handle that huge machine all the while informing us of geography, movie trivia and personal anecdotes. He kept our tour on schedule and made special efforts to accommodate drop-off requests. Great memories and money well spent.

I would give 10 stars to Dougie if possible: a lovely and cheerful person who totally knows how to entertain his group, by sharing historical knowledge and fun facts about the Highlands, keeping the attention high for 12 hours, a very hard job if you consider that most of the trip is spent on the bus. The landscapes are stunning, but if I could choose again, I would go for a different option, the time is not enough unfortunately, and everything deserves a lot more of it. I recommend this experience in case you've already spent several days in Scotland and want a day just for chilling. I would have loved to see the Wallace Monument much closer, as it is mentioned in the to do list, but we just managed to have a quick view from far away. Lochness worths the visit, although you have to pay extra for the cruise. Glencoe is a very evocative place, I would have loved being there for longer. Same for Ben Nevis, a quick glimpse is what you get, but totally acceptable for such a good price.

Brian was an excellent guide. The bus was comfortable and we learned so much about Scotland. There were frequent stops for some beautiful pictures. Loch Ness was fabulous. We did the boat tour which was great as well. My husband and I are from Ohio and this was our first trip to Scotland and we loved it. We highly recommend this tour.
