Full description
Spend a day discovering the land and legends of Scottish heroes William Wallace and Rob Roy, and experience the natural beauty of Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park. Begin with a photo stop at The Kelpies. Enjoy a memorable visit to Stirling Castle, explore the pretty villages of Aberfoyle and Loch Lomond Shores, and set off on a spectacular cruise across Loch Lomond. Departing Edinburgh, head to the bonnie banks of Loch Lomond, one of the prettiest and largest lochs in the whole of Scotland. Here you can enjoy an hour-long cruise taking in spectacular views of the loch’s many islands and the surrounding mountains. Alternatively, take a stroll through the picturesque loch-side conservation village of Loch Lomond Shores, with its quaint houses, cafes, and stunning views across the loch’s western shoreline.  Enter The Trossachs National Park, also known as “The Highlands in miniature” for its abundance of lochs, mountains, and forests, and famous as the homeland of the legendary outlaw, Rob Roy MacGregor. Continue on, past medieval Doune Castle, to the pretty town of Aberfoyle, situated on the banks of the River Teith in Stirlingshire, where you stop to enjoy some lunch.  Travel north-west for your last stop of the day at magnificent Stirling Castle, one of Scotland’s most historically significant castles, sitting high on volcanic rock and offering wonderful views of the surrounding landscape. You will have time to visit the castle and learn of the exploits of key historical figures including William Wallace, Robert the Bruce and Mary Queen of Scots. With lots of interesting things to see and do here, the Stirling Castle experience is a must for any visitor to Scotland. Travel back to Edinburgh.

Our guide/driver was Neil, who told us many stories on our day out, full of facts and some myths not only on the places we were visiting, but also the many places we drove past. The Kelpies were wonderful and again Neil was full of information on who designed them and when built.

Lovely driver, we were picked up on time. Everything was very smooth, stunning scenery. The only downside for us was we had decided that we didn’t want to go into Sterling Castle but we didn’t realise that we couldn’t go into the grounds at all, so couldn’t use the loo or the coffee shop. With only just over an hour at the castle we didn’t think it was worth the money to go in because we wouldn’t have had time to see enough so we were just hanging around, luckily there was a lovely little pub with lovely staff, so friendly, we sat outside and enjoyed a drink and used the loo before we set off back to Edinburgh. On the whole it was a good tour especially if you want to escape the hustle and bustle of the city for a day.

Stuart was our guide for the day. He was amazingly knowledgeable, helpful and entertaining throughout our tour. We learnt an amazing array of facts and enjoyed his playlist through the trossachs, which really helped create atmosphere on our journey. You could almost picture William Wallace preparing for battle! A wonderful tour of the lowlands and a great way to get a taste of Scotland in 9 hours. We really enjoyed our time on the tour, especially when we got to feed the Highland cows!
