Full description
The Boyne Valley and the Boyne River extend through the counties of Meath and Louth in the east of Ireland to the sea at Drogheda. Explore this historically important and wonderfully scenic area on a full-day guided tour from Dublin. Sites and monuments in the area date back over 5,000 years. The story of Ireland and the Irish people can be traced back in this valley to the first Neolithic settlers and their megalithic tombs and to the Celts, with their mythology and pagan beliefs. Visit the Hill of Tara, the ancient seat of the High Kings of Ireland. Hear about the Viking Raids and the Norman Conquest of Hugh De Lacy. See the sites of the Battle of the Boyne in 1690 and the major Irish Rebellions of 1641 and 1798. See the list below of the sites included on the tour. • Hill of Tara, the ancient seat of the High Kings of Ireland, featuring a number of ancient monuments • Trim Castle, the largest Norman castle in Europe and the location for the filming of Braveheart • Slane Castle, home of the Marquess Conyngham, and the site where U2 recorded the Unforgettable Fire album • Newgrange, a place of astrological, spiritual, religious, and ceremonial importance that’s older than the Pyramids

John was great. He was friendly, helpful, and very organized. We got everywhere we needed to be at the best time for the weather and views. Newgrange had a knowledgeable guide and the Hill of Tara had a stunning sunset. Both castles were closed, so it was only possible to get pictures outside.

Great day out! Our driver/guide got us to the Newgrange site pretty much before anyone else so we easily got admission. Newgrange was very impressive and the newgrange guide very informative and conversational. We ended up having a group philosophy sesh inside at the end of the official guided tour with the tour guide which was great food for thought. Entertaining and insightful commentary on the road trip by our driver/guide between sites. He went out of his way to ensure we had a fantastic experience. Ticked off all the major Boyne Valley attractions and made some great friends too!

What a fun trip and day out of Dublin. I love Irish history and this tour was therefore fantastic. Alex our mini van driver was very knowledgeable and very courteous. He provided us with many interesting stories concerning the sights we saw. Even though it was a misty/drizzly day loved it. Newgrange was spectacular as well as running around, literally the Hill of Tara. Alex took us thru the Battle of the Boyne area and gave us such a fine history of it that I really enjoyed going there after hearing so much concerning that battle. The mini van was so comfortable and easy to get to know others on the bus that added to the fun of the day. 3 others of us hung out together for the rest of the trip which also made it special. Alex also to us to a small place to eat for lunch and it was Fantastic!
