The tour begins with pickup from a selection of Dublin hotels, then leaves the busy city streets behind and heads out into the luscious Irish countryside. Travel into the agricultural plains of Royal County Meath, famed for its rich history as the ancient seat of the High King of Ireland. Arrive at the first stop of the day, the amazing medieval fortress of Trim Castle. Built on high ground overlooking the stunning River Boyne, the castle was built in the 1100s and is the largest and most impressive Norman castle in Ireland. The castle was also the set of Mel Gibson’s famous Braveheart movie which was filmed here in 1994. Spend an hour and a half exploring the grounds and ruins of the castle, and learn about the aristocrats that have lived here through the ages. Not far from Trim lies the Hill of Tara, home to an amazing variety of archaeological monuments. Discover the fascinating history that lies here and learn about the site’s importance to the rituals of kingship and pagan worship that were central to the country before the Christian European society. In the afternoon, the tour continues onto Slane Castle overlooking the site of the famous Battle of the Boyne, which took place in 1690. Home to a natural amphitheater, the grounds have played host to several major rock concerts since the early 1980s including The Rolling Stones, U2, Guns and Roses, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and many more. Guests can choose to enjoy an optional lunch at the castle, before heading onto the final stops of the day. Arrive at the Slane Whiskey Distillery next, housed within the 250-year-old stables of the iconic Slane Castle estate, and with a story as unique as its smooth and flavorful, triple-casked whiskey. The distillery pays homage to the resilient nature of the Conyngham family heritage and the surrounding lands that they call home. Allow their storytellers to immerse you into their wonderful world of whiskey while you taste their signature blend. The tour ends with a short pit stop at the haunting ruins of Monasterboice, an amazing 10th century round stone tower in pristine condition.
