Full description

Gain some insight into the Douro Valley's history and landscapes. Take a guided tour of the city of Amarante, known as the city of love, sweets, and art. Be amazed by the breathtaking view from one of the most beautiful viewpoints of the entire Douro region, the viewpoint of São Leonardo da Galafura. The Douro Valley is the oldest demarcated wine region in the world. It is also classified as a World Heritage Site. There are many other things to discover in the valley, including its rich culture, history, cuisine, and traditions.

This region is known for its unique landscape, where the river is beautifully flanked by green mountains on both sides, forming an interesting V shape.

These mountains not only flank the river but also serve a very important purpose: they are the soil where the vineyards are cultivated in terraces, making this view even more fantastic. For lunch, experience a 3-course traditional Douro meal (comprised of an appetizer, the main course, and a dessert) paired with local Douro wines. After lunch, enjoy a 1-hour panoramic river cruise from Pinhão, and fall in love with all the landscape and vineyards that surround you. Then is time for a visit with a local guide to a renowned winery (Quinta da Roêda, Taylor’s/Croft brands or Quinta São Luiz, Kopke/Calém brands), where you will learn about the production process of the famous Port wine and also enjoy a tasting of 3 different wines produced at the winery. After a day in good company, head back to Porto.

This experience will get you out of Porto to see the real Douro valley vineyards and experience the views of the valley from the comfort of a minivan. It is a 1.5 hour trip each way with a lunch and port tasting, a walk into the vineyard with a history on planting. The cruise is pleasant . Would recommend for a full day itinerary.

Great experience with beautiful views. We started with an hour walk around Amarante (free time - cute little town, not much to do) and went afterwards to the top of the mountain to take pictures (beautiful) before heading to the restaurant to eat our meal consisting of a lot of red wine, soup, chicken rice and vegetables and finished off with an espresso and small dessert. We then went on the boat tour (50min) which was okay and we finished off the day at a winery with a small tour and wine tasting. Overall great day (8h30am-6h30pm) with our really sweet tour guide Jessica (speaking English and Portuguese). Only reason I didn’t rate 5 stars is because I think it is a bit too expensive for the whole experience. I would of paid around 80$ cad per person.

I took this tour while in Porto for a few days. It was most enjoyable. We saw so much on the tour that otherwise would probably not see. The views from the bus even of the Douro Valley were amazing. We stopped of in Amarate on the way. Again this was lovely to see as probably would never go otherwise. I have been on day tours when on holidays in other countries and always felt rushed but this was very relaxed and had enough time. Our tour guide, Anabelle was brilliant and gave us lots of details about the vineyards and of the different places we stopped. I would highly recommend this tour as even if you hired a car to visit you would not know what you were looking at or the history of the places. The boat cruise in Pinhao was nice and chilled and nice to look up at the views. There was no guide but all had been explained already by Anabelle and when we visited the vineyard.
