Full description
Explore a beautiful textile and South American camelid exhibition center which, in addition to displaying the beauty and benefits of vicuñas, alpacas, llamas and guanacos, presents the products obtained from them through a combination of traditional and modern techniques. This is a true living museum, involving and benefiting several camelid breeding communities in the area. Take in the views from the famous point, El Mirador, before seeing Sacred Valley and gaining insight into the local Inca history. There is an unusual abundance of fertile plains in this high area of the Andes, witness vast contour terracing and irrigation channels left behind by the Incas. See amazing works of stone art and impressive agricultural terrace. After lunch, visit Incan ruins in Ollantaytambo. Find rock formations representing the Inca god, Wiracocha. Continue to Chinchero to see how natural dyes are made for artisanal textiles and how the local inhabitants live in dwellings and conditions nearly the same as their ancestors.
