Following breakfast, you'll travel one more hour to the hike starting point, at 4,850 meters. From there you will start your 3.5-kilomter trek to Rainbow Mountain over both flat and uphill terrain. During your hike you will enjoy amazing views and encounters with wild alpacas, llamas, and vicuñas. Once you reach the top at 5,010 meters, you can make use of some free time to take a break, and if the weather is good, you will be able to enjoy views over Rainbow Mountain. It was good except rainbow mountain is closed so we had to hike "colorful mountain ". It was still beautiful and our guide was great and we were served breakfast before and lunch after. It was just surprising that as late as 4pm the day before they confirmed our tour of rainbow mountain. And at 6pm they told us rainbow mountain was closed. Apparently it's been closed for a while.

First off altitude sickness beware. It is a hard climb. It is almost 5000m. So if you suffer from altitude sickness take some medicine or lots of coca tea The climb was worth every minute of it. And the views at the top. Wow. Spectacular. Our guide Robinson made the trip really fun and gave us some background on Incas and also the region. What was more interesting is he knew what to do and how to address some of the altitude sickness Definitely ask for pee pee de condor

Vicunica had been closed two days before our trip due to political situation and we've been taken to Palcoyo instead (the other raindow mountain). It was really worth so see it. Our guide -Joel was the best guide we had in Peru. Friendly and supportive to people who had problems during hiking. Views were beautiful and climb up was easy. There were many Alpakas ready to pose for a photos with tourists for small tip. Lunch and breakfast could be better. There were two things which I need to complaint about. First, air condition was not turned on during the whole trip so we felt like in sauna. Second thing were people who were not wearing masks in the bus even if we are during covid pandemic. Pilot should educate all tourists and make sure that they need to put masks on their faces to not risk infecting the rest of the group.
