Full description
From world-renowned Danish brewer Carlsberg to gypsy-brewery Mikkeller and local microbreweries, you'll have the opportunity to taste your way through Danish beer history while discovering the Vesterbro district and its unique role in Copenhagen. The Vesterbro district was previously dominated by prostitution, butchers, and other shady characters, but underwent a revitalization and is now a colorful, cultural, and culinary pearl of the city. The old buildings that once housed thousands of working-class families are home to exquisite restaurants, cool bars, and trendy independent shops. Quench your thirst with beer samples and satiate your hunger with a piece of the iconic Danish speciality Smørrebrød (extravagantly garnished open-faced sandwiches). Mixing stories of beer with the history of the area (it's just too exciting to leave out), you'll discover where the city's old gasworks and factories were located. You'll also see the area where all of Copenhagen's butchers gathered in what is now known as the Meatpacking district. Today, food wholesalers, still primarily of meat, share the area with a wide array of cultural, recreational, culinary, and educational establishments. Your delicious stroll ends here, in the midst of one of Copenhagen's food havens, where finding good dinner locations is easy, but deciding which on to choose is hard. Don't forget to ask your guide for their personal favorites to help narrow down your options.
