Take a day trip from Madrid to visit two of Spain's oldest cities, Avila and Segovia. Explore the rich history of these UNESCO-listed cities with a guide. Admire Avila's walls, cathedral, and Basilica of San Vicente. Then continue to Segovia's Roman aqueduct, Gothic cathedral, and Alcazar fortress. Drive for an hour from Madrid and find yourself in Avila. See the stunning 11th-century walls surrounding the city. These fortifications are the most complete in all of Spain. Next, visit the interior of the Basilica of San Vicente to see the best examples of Romanesque architecture in the country. Pass by the Plaza Mayor and the Cathedral. At your next stop, enter the church-convent of Saint Teresa of Jesus that was built by the Order of the Discalced Carmelites in the 17th century, supposedly in the same place where Saint Teresa of Avila was born. Following the visit to Avila, enjoy free time to have wine, beer, soft drinks, and an aperitif, or continue exploring the city on your own. Regroup at 2 PM to head to the city of Segovia. Begin your tour of Segovia with a visit to its main symbol, the Roman Aqueduct, as evidenced by its presence on the city's coat of arms. Pass by the Casa de los Picos, Plaza de Juan Bravo and Plaza Mayor. Arrive at the cathedral dedicated to Our Lady of the Assumption and of San Frutos. Enter to see its size, elegance, and blend of late Gothic style and Renaissance features, to understand why it's called the Lady of the Cathedrals. Finally, go into the Fortress of the Alcazar of Segovia, a medieval castle, located on a rocky crag at the confluence of 2 rivers near the Sierra de Guadarrama. Witness one of Spain's most distinctive castle-palaces by virtue of its shapes, such as the bow of a ship. After the visit, start the trip back to Madrid in a comfortable bus.

Check in at our office in central Madrid 15 minutes in advance of your tour. Leave the city towards Ávila aboard one of our air-conditioned coaches. Our first stop for the day will be at the city of Ávila, one of the best-preserved fortifications in Spain. Follow your guide on a walking tour of the Old Town to discover the impressive history of this city. See Romanesque-style churches, Gothic palaces, and a fortified cathedral dating back to the Middle Ages. Visit the Walls of Ávila and and imagine the stories they have seen through the centuries. Marvel at the fortification and towers, which have granted the city a World Heritage Site status by UNESCO. We will continue the tour to Segovia. On arrival, we will divide in two groups. If you have chosen the option to visit Segovia at your own pace, you will have approximately three hours of free time. The rest of the group will go to the restaurant. Those who have chosen the gastronomic menu will enjoy a gastronomic lunch with roast suckling pig that will not leave you indifferent. People who have not chosen the gastronomic lunch will have a typical courtesy tapa and a drink. After lunch, those who have chosen the tour with monuments will meet again with the guide to start the tour in Segovia. Walk through the old Jewish quarter of the city, visit the outside of the Cathedral and walk towards the Alcazar of Segovia. Then we will leave for Ávila. Visit the Ávila's historic center and discover the legacy of this city declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Be amazed by its fascinating history! The route will continue along a stretch of the famous Walls of Ávila. How has it been preserved to the present day? We will reveal these questions on the thick wall that surrounds the city's entire historic center as we head toward the Cathedral and other monuments. If the upgrade option is selected, we will make a stop to have lunch in a local restaurant in the old town, where we will enjoy a typical “Iberian Traditional Meal”, if not you can enjoy free time for lunch, the guide will give recommendations of restaurants in the area. We will continue our trip heading to Segovia, our third stop of the day and our third city declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. We will arrive at Segovia's historic center, then, initiate a walk through the main square of the city, the Plaza Mayor, contemplating monuments such as its majestic Roman Aqueduct, we will continue through the old quarter of the city until we reach the Cathedral, and finally we will arrive In the majestic Alcazar, the old royal palace and fortress. There, you will have free time to discover a little bit of the city on your own, take good pictures and have nice souvenirs. Great tour. Very well organized. The sites were beautiful and views were gorgeous. Oscar is and Extremely knowledgeable guide. Only issue was that bus did not have cell phone charging ports. The phones died for a couple of people and they were not able to take pictures.

I think this tour is perfect if you want to get an overview of Spanish landscapes out of the big city, such as Madrid. The schedule, the guide and the organisation was just perfect. I loved every inch of all the three cities and I highly recommend it to anyone.
