Meet your English-speaking guide outside the monumental Colosseum and get an introduction to the finest arena of the Roman Empire from an expert on Roman history. Then, skip the long lines for a privileged look at the underground tunnels and chambers, restricted to a few selected visitors each day. Marvel at the engineering skills of the Romans as you see the remains of the 88 elevators that lead up to the arena floor. Continue to the arena floor for an exclusive chance to stand on the same spot that the gladiators stood over 2,000 years ago. Enjoy some free time to explore at leisure. Then, make you way to the Roman Forum to learn more about the heart of the ancient city. Continue to Palatine Hill, where the nobles of Ancient Rome built their luxury villas.

Had a great guide in Lara. As an experienced archaeologist and excellent communicator Lara was able to bring the roman period to life, and answer the many questions from our group with clarity and authority. Due to Covid and current archaeology restrictions the underground chambers part of the tour was limited in scope. However this did not detract from our overall enjoyment of the tour.

The partner agency Crown Tours didn’t give a proper briefing on what was happening when we were led to the Colosseum entry. They passed us from one person to another without informing us why and where we were heading to. We ended up going to the wrong entry and not knowing who was going to do the tour inside and had to ask a few Colosseum staff ourselves before finding out what we’re supposed to do. The colosseum tour guide was excellent though. She was very informative and accommodating. Same goes for our Palatine Hill and Roman Forum guide, Collin. He made thorough explanations of the sites and handled the group well.

Our guide was good and it was easy to find our guide group. Seeing the underground was interesting as well as much above. We also did the Forum and Palatine Hill but didn't have enough time to see it all. If you do a tour later in the day, you won't have as much time available to see everything. I would plan on 3-4 hours if you are doing the Colosseum, Palatine Hill, and the forum.
