Full description
The Chocolate Museum is located in Cologne's old town, on the Rheinau harbor peninsula, surrounded by river on both sides. It can be easily recognized by the Malakoff Tower, which is located directly in front of the museum.   The museum houses a collection that traces 5,000 years of chocolate history. The 4,000-square-meter space contains exhibits that shed light on the origins and the culture of chocolate and how it has developed through centuries.  The treasure trove looks into pre-Colombian, Maya, and Aztec ways of using chocolate at the time when cocoa was a drink dedicated for Gods. From America cocoa travelled to Europe, where it became accessible only to wealthy classes. Cologne's Chocolate Museum will show you how chocolate became a treat for everyone and how media and advertising campaigns started spreading the news about this sweet snack.

The Chocolate Museum is definitely a very interesting and worth seeing thing when you are in Cologne. I would definitely order the tickets in advance, you avoid a long waiting time at the cash desk and we have also booked a guided tour that I can highly recommend to everyone. You are informed about the important things and thus learn a lot about the production and processing and see a little more than the visitors who "just" walk through. A successful experience!

It was my second time there and I would visit it again on my next stay in Cologne. A nice journey into the history of chocolate. It is there for both young and old. While your own chocolate creation is being completed, you can enjoy the view of the Rhine over a cup of coffee.

It was a good idea to come in the morning after the opening, later it got very busy (holiday season). Not suitable for families with children in front of primary school and with prams! Too bad that there is only chocolate in the museum shop and no postcards, further literature or cosmetics with chocolate!
