Brasov: Craiuli Mountains Hike & Bear Sanctuary Private Trip

1. Brasov: Craiuli Mountains Hike & Bear Sanctuary Private Trip

We will depart in the morning from Braşov and drive to the mountains, just outside of Zărneşti. Here we will visit the Bear Sanctuary Liberty, one of the most interesting wildlife conservation projects: almost one hundred brown bears have been brought from old zoos and illegal animal parks, and have found a much better life here. From here we will drive to the Piatra Craiului Mountains and prepare for a 5-hour hike to one of Romania’s most beautiful scenery: lively coloured meadows, migrating sheep herds and isolated mountain villages will enchant us all day long. At noon we will enjoy a delicious picnic with traditional homemade sausages and cheese. In the evening we will return to Brasov.

Brasov: Brown Bear & Wildlife Watching

2. Brasov: Brown Bear & Wildlife Watching

Head deep in the forests surrounding Brasov. The vehicle that will pick you up and bring you to the forest will stop approximately 200-300 meters away from the observation hide. Walk for a short distance to the hide and then wait quietly, for the wildlife to come out. Everything is real and wild. Please note that there is no 100% guarantee that you will spot any wildlife, but statistically, there are very high chances to spot brown bears, and also lynx, foxes, wolves, and wild boars. Once the sun is setting and it is getting darker, start making your way back and return to Brasov, as you will not be able to see anything in the dark and walking through the forest during the night can be dangerous. The meeting time is set according to the dusk time and can, therefore, vary a little. The starting time for this adventure runs from 6 PM in mid-summer time to 3 PM in November, when the days have already become very short.

We had an absolutely brilliant time hiking in the Fagaras mountains! Our guide Bogdan was fantastic, picked us up and drove us there. He was very experienced and made sure to show us all the best sights. The hike was spectacular-starting with luscious forests, then into huge snow-covered valleys, climbing to an incredible view of Lake Balea. Finish by descending into Lake Balea for a drink at the hut, and taking the cable car down (getting stunning views of the transfagarasan route and waterfall). The whole day was about 10 hours. One thing to note: We went in early October and by that point there was snow on the mountains. We didn’t quite expect that (we thought there would be no snow yet). It was fine, we had hiking boots, the weather was lovely, and our guide Bogdan provided us with suitable equipment and expertise to guide us hiking through snow but I’d say keep that in mind and make sure to wear suitable clothing!

We had a great time! Tibiu was our guide together with his wife. They were excellent! We were the only 2 guests and the tour was highly adaptable to our preferences. We had the chance to admire the beautiful snowy scenery of the Carpathians, since we visited on January. We started with a canyon hike where we also stopped for a hot tea, continued with a traditional lunch in a cozy guesthouse and later on with a walk on a beautiful mountain village. We finished the tour with a cave visit. During the tour, we had interesting conversations related to the tour and to Romania in general. This is a highly recommended tour for one that wants to experience Romanian tradition.

Amazing hike with Mihai. The guide has a lot of knowledge about nature. We were lucky and got to see a lot of animals, even bears! Mihai took care of us at all times and we felt no danger. Activity 100% recommended.

God hike route. The guide was very kind. It's a short route and we finished pretty quickly, so he suggested we go down a few zip lines. We had a great time, recommend the activity as it is not difficult.

great walk in the National park with Mihai very very interesting ... lunch at the nice and hearty cottage beautiful day ☀
