The Berlengas archipelago is situated 16km west of Peniche, a powerful granite block which belongs to the parish of St. Peter, in the Peniche municipality. The archipelago is a protected area that includes various nature reserves and is considered a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve since 2011. Depart from the harbor of Peniche and enjoy a 30-minute ferry ride along the turquoise sea waters. Arrive at the Berlengas harbor from where you will be able to freely explore the archipelago. Start with a visit to the São João Baptista fort built in the 17th-century. This little fort is one of the most visually striking buildings in Portugal. After this, go for a swim at Praia do Carreiro do Mosteiro, the only beach that is accessible and safe to swim from. Enjoy a trip to Berlengas Island on a fast boat and visit the caves while looking down through the glass bottom. Admire the outside and inside of different caves, like the Elephant cave, Dream cave, Furado Grande, and more. Afterward, take some time on your own to explore the Island. Walk the beach, gaze up at the lighthouse, discover Forte S. João Batista, and walk the Island's trails. Meet your guide and board a semi-rigid boat or sports yacht. Head toward Berlengas Island, an eco-haven with a visitor limit, so you can experience its true beauty without the crowds. First, take a short tour around the island and learn all about the different caves, while gazing at the underwater marine life through the glass-bottom boat. Spot the Elephant cave and feel amazed at the way the natural rock formations resemble the trunk and face of a great elephant. At the dream cave, take in one of nature's masterpieces and learn of its history. Then, at Furado Grande, learn why it translates to Big Hole and how it stretches across the entire island. Take your time afterward to guide yourself around the Island. Look out over the turquoise waters from the beach. Walk up to the lighthouse and imagine yourself alone. After meeting your tour guide in the morning, you will be transported to Penacova and provided with the kayaking equipment and some instructions. Then, set off from the Carvoeira dam on a kayaking tour with a total length of 18 km (11 miles).  You'll be kayaking through the natural Mondego river valley, surrounded by extensive forests. As you travel downriver, you will pass by the small villages of Ronqueira, Rebordosa, Louredo, Foz do Caneiro and Casal. This part of the river is full of small beaches where you can stop for a picnic or go to go for a swim. On the river beach of Palheiros, you'll find a small bar where you can buy an ice cream or a cold beer. The river usually has a light current, which makes the kayaking easy and accessible to all ages. Finish in Torres do Mondego, after 3-4 hours of kayaking and breaks along the way. Expect to arrive between 15.00 and 17.00 pm.

We will arrive first at the basilica, completed in 1953 and built at the site of religious apparitions that gained fame around the world. The basilica holds the tombs of the three children said to have seen the Virgin Mary, as well as a beautiful and ornate white marble interior. While at the basilica, you are free to attend mass if you wish. Afterwards, we will visit various sites related to the religious apparitions throughout the town. See the very site of the apparitions of an angel, and the place of the fourth apparition of Our Lady in 1917. After seeing the home of these extraordinary events, and experiencing this unique spiritual town, we will return to Lisbon in the evening.

Starting from Porto, you will be picked up and driven through the Portuguese countryside until you reach these amazing nature tourism structures. Along the way to the 516 Arouca Suspension Bridge and the Paiva Walkways you will go by Arouca. In Arouca there is a convenient stop where you can grab a snack for the way if you wish to do so. This town is famous for it’s traditional sweets! Once you reach Areinho (one of the entrances of Paiva Walkways), you start your journey by climbing the strairway of around 300 steps and reach the incredible 516 Arouca elevated about 175m above the Paiva River. Crossing this bridge is one unforgettable experience. Get all the information about this structure and be amazed with the views over to Aguieira Waterfall and Paiva River. You will continue you journey follwing the path of Paiva Walkways as it follows the flow of the river through the next 8 Km. Along the way you will be able to enjoy the wilderness and set your own pace. Enjoy the landscapes and the moment. Relax at Vau beach mid-way through the hike and carry on all the way to Espiunca, where our hiking ends. From Espiunca we will make a small connection to Alvarenga, where in a local restaurant we will have a great meal with the famous “Arouquesa” DPO meat (other options available). The day ends with a comfortable ride back to Porto, where you can keep on learning about our country and culture directly from a local guide.

Like traveling with our grown son. Very laid back, casual. Saw everything we wanted and more. We really appreciated the fact Fabio didn’t try to fill our heads with names and dates we could never remember, which allowed us to enjoy the scenery. Obrigado!
