Montserrat & Cava Winery Small Group Day Tour

1. Montserrat & Cava Winery Small Group Day Tour

Embark on a guided day trip from Barcelona to Montserrat and the Penedès wine-growing region by minivan. Visit the monastery and the Museum of Monserrat, listen to Europe's oldest children's choir, walk through the mountain range's many paths, and visit a winery - this tour has it all. There will be plenty of free time to explore Montserrat on your own, but a visit to the sanctuary where the Moreneta is housed is a must. Pilgrims and other visitors have climbed the mountain to visit this sanctuary for nearly 1,000 years. You’ll also have the opportunity to visit the fascinating Museum of Montserrat, and browse its collections that range from the Archaeology of the Biblical East to Modern Painting and Sculpture. A highlight of visiting Montserrat is listening to the voices of Europe’s oldest children’s choir, La Escolania de Montserrat. There are numerous walking and climbing trails on the mountain, ranging from easy strolls to serious hikes. Each trail offers a different perspective on the surrounding landscape, dotted with small chapels and hermitages.  If you'd rather not walk at all, then another option is to take one of the 2 rack railways or the cable car, which also provides stunning views of the area. After the morning in Montserrat, the tour heads to Penedès, a wine-growing region where you'll stop by a winery to view the vast wine cellars and taste some of the wineries' renowned products. You'll tour the winery and see how this sparkling wine is produced, from pressing the grapes to fermentation in the vast cellars. No winery visit would be complete without a taste of the product, so at the end of the tour, you'll have a chance to try some of the best Cava the region produces.

2. Barcelona: Caves Codorniu Winery Tour Based on Anna's Life

Join this guided winery tour and tasting experience to learn about Anna de Codorniu, the last person in the family that bore the surname Codorníu. The first cava using Chardonnay grapes carries her name as a tribute.  Start your guided tour in the Puig Room before moving on to the "Cava Cathedral," a modernist building and historical monument. Then, visit the museum and the main wine cellar. At the cellar, take a train ride stopping at the Anna Space, an elegant and feminine area. Taste 3 of Anna de Codorniu products accompanied with a small appetizer.

Penedès: Codorniu Winery Tour with Cava Tasting

3. Penedès: Codorniu Winery Tour with Cava Tasting

Enter the world of cava as you explore the historic Codorníu Winery with your guide. Visit the estate gardens and the museum to learn more about cava and the making of process. Descend 20 meters underground and take a train through the wine cellars before finishing your tour with a tasting of 2 premium cavas. Your visit begins in Sala Puig, the Cathedral of Cava, where you may watch a short video introduction of the Codorniu history and wine-making. We had a terrific time with our guide, Rod. There were 6 in our group total, which was nice. Rod was incredibly knowledgeable and personable. This tour was certainly the highlight of our trip to Barcelona and I wish we would have done another with Explore Catalunya, the local partner of Get Your Guide.

We had an amazing time. Rod was a fantastic guide. He was interesting, fun, safe and gave us great advice in Montserrat. Great tour that brought us outside the city, a much needed break from the busy streets of Barcelona. Day trip was absolutely worth the time and money. Good job Rod!
