Leisurely hike with lots of information about volcanoes. At the reception everyone could borrow suitable shoes for free. You could also buy sandwiches in the restaurant next door. Then we took the gondola up and from there we continued on foot. The pace was very comfortable and there were frequent breaks with lots of information. We would do the hike again.

The guided tour of Etna's lava fields and ancient craters was breathtaking. The guide Luca is a very likeable and communicative guy who, thanks to his geological background, was able to report many exciting things about Mount Etna and its immediate surroundings. The sometimes strong winds and temperature differences should be taken into account, which is why you should only complete the tour in good hiking clothing. The tour is absolutely worthwhile, as you can only walk away from the main paths and pass interesting places with a companion. Due to an event in February this year, the main crater at almost 3,300 meters cannot be visited at the moment. But you walked on the hardened lava field and could witness the still hot rock. We recommend the tour without reservation and would do it again at any time :)

Our guide was a very experienced and knowledgeable expert in the area and the related topics. It was really great to see, hear, touch and smell the craters, caldera, etc. But as it was a very windy day, and as I am pretty small and light-weighted, it was very tough to follow him and the group. I recommend that you train yourself before to fit the tough program and fully enjoy the tour. It could have been little better, if a little-longer break was allowed to take photos and to have a snack. Though it was warned, it was quite cold up on the mountain. Even if you take your tracking shoes, I would recommend that you rent shoes from the tour, as your shoes may get damaged from the heat from the hot rocks from the recent eruption.
