The terrace view opens 360 degrees towards the city center from the grounds of the castle and beyond the River Tiber.     See the many iconic sights surrounding the castle such as the Palace of Justice, Villa Borghese, Quirinal Palace, Pantheon, Capitoline Hill, Aventine Hill, and Janiculum. Look towards St. Peter's Basilica to spot the Passetto di Borgo, a passageway connecting Castel Sant'Angelo to Vatican City. After this experience, you are free to visit the remaining levels of the castle at your own pace. Admire the other parts of the castle that was founded by the Roman emperor Hadrian and built to be his monumental tomb.

    Without a tour guide, we would’ve been in an out within 20 minutes. However, the tour guide explained the significance and historical importance of this site. She was informative, insightful and made the learning of history fun. A definite five star recommendation.

    We were going to leave this off the itinerary, but timewise it worked out and very glad it did. The tour was extended by one hour (no problem with that, usually the opposite) and our tour guide (sorry, forgot her name) was excellent. The pace was not too fast, not too slow, but the information was great. There was a mix of history related to the castle and the items we were seeing and experiencing. We thoroughly enjoyed the entire visit.

    On arriving at Castel Sant'Angelo a few minutes late we managed to find the guide, who was actually looking for us. The tour covered all the main attactions of the monument, starting from the bottom up. We were taught the key elements of every room and we left the place just a bit more knowledgeable, which has to count as something. Apart from the educational aspect of the tour, we were also led to several breathtaking points through the structure and we had the chance to take pictures. The view from the top was amazing. We definitely recommend it.
