  • Naples: Herculaneum Skip-the-Line Tour with Archaeologist

    1. Naples: Herculaneum Skip-the-Line Tour with Archaeologist

This tour will take you on a guided visit of the world’s best preserved Roman city, Herculaneum. This was a rich city of merchants and nobility, whose lives ended dramatically fast with the eruption of Mount Vesuvius nearly 2,000 years ago.  See the waterfront, where the remains of more than 300 people lie, who died trying to escape by sea. Explore the Samnite house, the thermal baths, the Temple of the Augustales, and the Forum. Discover the house of Neptune and Amphitrite, the Gymnasium, and much more. During this experience you can see not only stone, marble, and ceramics that survived the eruption, but also carbonized wood, and paintings and mosaics even more exquisite than those found in Pompeii. Learn about life in this city, and the blast that destroyed it, on this 2-hour guided tour.

We covered all of Herculaneum! Absolutely loved our guide. We was so informational and made sure we got to see all the cool things

  • 2-Hour Private Tour of the Ruins of Herculaneum

    2. 2-Hour Private Tour of the Ruins of Herculaneum

See the ruins of Herculaneum, the smaller, but no less impressive, sister of Pompeii, frozen in time by the same devastating volcanic eruption of August 24th 79 AD. Left buried under the rubble of ash until the 1700s, its discovery stunned the world. All of the ancient town lies at the bottom of an archaeological hole, about 75 feet deep. Getting closer, see the area of the marina where 300 human skeletons were found along with a boat (on display at weekends). Discover the garden of the “House of the Albergo”, where quince trees have been replanted following evidence of carbonized roots of the ancient fruit tree. Your next stop is the Council Hall of the Augustali, where beautiful frescoes depict Hercules. Visit the mosaics in the House of Neptune and Amphitrite, and the neighboring store where food and wine containers, carbonised by the volcano, still hang on the walls! Go to the anc...

The tour was great, Anna was so friendly and knowledgeable. I am so glad that we did the tour with her, she really put the whole Herculaneum way of life and it's inevitable demise into perspective in a pleasant and interesting manner. She was informative while keeping it interesting which can be difficult to do.

  • Herculaneum and Mount Vesuvius Private Tour

    4. Herculaneum and Mount Vesuvius Private Tour

The thriving Roman city of Herculaneum met its fate in 79 A. D., when Mount Vesuvius erupted. The volcanic ash from Mt. Vesuvius buried the entire town and many of its inhabitants. Herculaneum is much smaller but better preserved than Pompeii. While Pompeii was covered in four to five meters of ashes, a landslide of 20-meter deep mud buried Herculaneum.  Carbonized wooden objects, intact paintings and mosaics are still preserved and the city will come to life with a two-hour tour by your guide. Highlights include the Temple of the Augustali, the beach where more then 300 skeletons were found, the thermal baths, the forum, the house of Neptune and Amphitrite, the Samnite house, the gymnasium, the house of the Dears and much more. Afterwards, take a break for lunch in a typical Italian restaurant for some good wine and  traditional dishes. After lunch the driver will take you to Mount Ve...
