5 Architectural Facts about Casa Batlló

Antoni Gaudí saw nature as his muse and used its patterns and shapes to create architectural masterpieces. Casa Batlló is one example that reflects his ingenious imagination, and it should top your list when visiting Barcelona.

History

History

In 1904, the Batlló family asked Gaudí to turn their building into an unrivaled showpiece and allowed him free rein to bring his whims of creativity to life. He clearly succeeded.

Architecture

Architecture

Gaudí's technqiue, with the use of stone, glass, color, and abstract shapes on Casa Batlló's undulating facade and in its interior, illustrates his brilliance of Catalan Modernism.

Noble Room

Noble Room

It's where the Batlló family lived, and it exudes sheer elegance. The mushroom-shaped alcove, with benches to sit by a fire, is an example of Gaudí's gifted mind at work.

Interior

Interior

The use of warm tones and wood creates a harmonious flow throughout. The building's shaft, lined with cool shades of exquisite, blue tiles, fills Casa Batlló with natural light.

Roof

Roof

Eccentric chimneys rise behind what appears to be the contour of a dragon's back, which crowns the roof. The sequence of colored tiles enhances the effect of a scaly surface.

You will see a LOT of Guadi Architecture

We saw Sagrada Familia from the outside on our first visit to Barcelona, so we wan to go inside of this monumental church as well as other famous Gaudi buildings and this tour did not disappoint. Our guide for the Sagrada Familia tour was well versed in its history and spoke clearly and kept our fairly large group together and on schedule (not an easy task). Our second guide for the tour of Park Guill and other Gaudi Buildings was also was very well versed in the subject and spoke excellent English, but because that part of the tour was given in both English and Spanish, it was a bit more confusing at times to understand. After touring Park Guill, the last part of the tour involves walking on the outside of two of Gaudi's downtown buildings. While that is interesting, if you don't take the extra tour of the inside of at least one of the buildings (we did), the time and energy spent to see the outside may not be worth the effort. Be advised, there is a LOT of walking on this tour!

A Great and super convenient way to explore Barcelona

The bus is a really convenient way to explore Barcelona. I was in Barcelona with my parents, who don’t enjoy walking long distances and they were super happy to be able to take the bus and move onto the next sight. All drivers and guides on the bus were super friendly and the audio guides were thorough and really well made. The only small problem we had was that the Park Güell stop was changed and neither the App nor the map are up to date so it took us a little while to make it back to the right place. It would be great if the app were updated. All in all I was really satisfied!

Very friendly staff giving a very good organised tour with care.

Your staff was very friendly, informative and clear in giving instructions. They took great care in making sure everyone understood where they needed to be when. Kept on warning us about safety issues that was a great help. As a tourist you can easily get caught up in the moment and not pay attention to those around you. Bus was very clean and comfortable. Will use your services again soon and recommend it to those I know. Thank you for a great tour!

Too often you don't get what you paid for.

Casa Battlo wasn't the only ticket we booked. It happens too often that after having booked and paid for a ticket one gets a message the trip is not available on the date that was booked, it is cancelled completely or the time that the voucher shows is not what you booked. Also we had a lot of trouble showing the voucher on the phone since downloading wouldn't work at the destination chosen. I doubt if I would book with you again.

The building is beautiful but too crowded

In general, I liked Caso Batlló. Gaudi's genius knowledge and creativity gave marvelous results that bewilder visitors from all around the world. It's absolutely astonishing - the play of light and shadow, the glasswork, and the texture of the materials used. The audio guide was really useful and helped to understand the creation. The only irritating factor was the number of tourists:)
