Iceland: Northern Lights Bus Tour from Reykjavik

1. Iceland: Northern Lights Bus Tour from Reykjavik

Embark on an evening trip to see the Aurora Borealis. Hear fascinating facts about them from your guides, visit the Aurora Museum, and search to see the lights firsthand. Depart the bright lights of Reykjavík city center to see the dancing lights of the Aurora Borealis. Also known as the “Northern Lights,” it is one of the most spectacular shows during winter months. Head for wherever meteorologists have predicted the lights will be at their best. To get stunning views of the sky you will aim for areas with no artificial light. Hear explanations of how the Aurora Borealis is caused as a result of the gaseous particles in the earth’s atmosphere colliding with charged particles released from the sun’s atmosphere. Benefit from an itinerary that includes stops for you to go outside and take photographs. The locations visited differ from day to day, but you will head in the direction with the most chance of seeing Mother Nature at work. As the tour is weather-dependent, and sightings are not guaranteed, you are also invited to join another Northern Lights tour free of charge if the lights don’t appear.  Explore the Northern Lights in the Aurora Museum. The Northern Lights tour includes a complimentary ticket for a self-guided visit to the museum in Reykjavik, valid on the day you join the tour, from the time you receive confirmation that the tour is on.

What people are saying about Capital Region of Iceland

We had a great, well-informed & enthusiastic native Icelandic guide...her name was "Rown" (phonetic spelling)...she kept us entertained with the scientific reasons behind the Aurora Borealis, and Norse Viking myths. The driver (didnt catch his name) was also amazing, he navigated those dark country highways expertly. Yes we did get to see the Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights), the driver/guide were able to find a spot where the skies were clear & the lights were visible. We arrived at a warm little country house that had a bathroom, and the guide & driver gave us hot chocolate. Everyone on the trip made friends even though we hadnt met before, and took each other's picture with the Northern Lights. Rown also helped us with advice about how to photograph ourselves with the Northern Lights. She was so pleasant and friendly. This experience was one of the highlights of our trip - definitely worth trying. Thank you Rown + driver!

We really enjoyed this activity - very well organised and we were looked after all the way through by our fantastic guide Elsa. If you're worried about it being cold, so long as you wear extra socks and a thermal base layer you don't feel it on your body; your hands and face do get cold, but you warm up quickly with the hot chocolate they provide afterward. You also get changed in a trailer not in the open car park which is what we thought!! Elsa took loads of Gopro photos & sent them by the end of the day for us to download so we have loads of memories. A really great experience, and thoroughly recommended.

We took this tour just last week and it was amazing. We were so lucky to see a spectacular display of the lights. Our guide, Odys, was awesome. He was full of information and enthusiasm. Twice the lights waned and we all got back on the bus but Odys encouraged us to get off because the lights were shifting and brightening again. The bus was very comfortable and there were bathrooms available at the viewing location. The bonfire and hot chocolate were a nice touch because it was definitely cold! This was an experience we will never forget, a highlight of our trip. I highly recommend this tour.

Mia was full of enthusiasm during the trip and was very helpful to ensure we got the best out of our trip. it was a very cold night but welcomed the hot chocolate. this trip was rebooted oringally due on Friday, rebooted for Sat and again moved to Sunday but very easy to rearrange this.

Beautiful, amazing, guide was great, will definetly come back !!
