Full description
Traveling is only as deep as the people you interact with, and on this half-day tour, you will get to discover Cape Town in an up-close and personal way through the eyes of the locals. During your time together, you will have a chance to dig deeper into the multicultural side of Cape Town, and hear their personal stories of forceful removals from District Six to the rich cultural landscape of township life. The day either begins at 08.00 or at 13.00, returning approximately four-and-a-half hours later. You will begin in District Six with the Museum (closed Sundays). Here you can educate yourself on the forceful removal of over 60,000 inhabitants in the 1970s by the apartheid regime. This once lively community of former slaves, artisans and merchants was once home to almost 1/10 of the city of Cape Town's population before the brutality that came. After your education, you will move to Langa, the oldest formal township in South Africa. This suburb was established in 1927, and was established specifically for Black Africans before the apartheid era. There is a history of violent uprisings here, and your visit will be benefited with the local's stories and perspectives. From here we move onto Shebeen (township pub) with the option to taste some traditional beer! How can you turn down a beer with the locals? Finally we move to Khayelitsha - the largest and fastest growing township in South Africa today. Its local name is Xhosa, which means New Home. Here you will get to meet with some of the township entrepreneurs who are breathing new life in to these historic towns. If you're fortunate enough to be with us on a Sunday, we'll even have the chance to visit a charismatic church service in the townships! It's truly an experience not to be missed!

excellent tour! We were picked up punctually at the hotel in Camps Bay. We received many explanations on the tour. We were able to visit the District Six Museum and were guided through the township by a township resident. We were also allowed to taste the home-brewed beer there. Then we went on to the largest township in Cape Town - we were not allowed to get off here because it would have been too unsafe. But we were able to get a very good impression from the car with lots of explanations. We can fully recommend the tour!

The visit to Langa is very striking and allows you to see the reality of the city of Cape Town and the consequences of Apartheid. Our guide in Langa was very nice and taught us a lot. However, it should be noted that Khayelitsha is not really visited, it is just a drive through. The car guide was not very talkative and didn't explain much to us.

very safe and well guided tour. very informative. the guide himself lives in township and so does the driver. it is definitely worth getting to know this side of capetown. we took ball books, pens and small packs of gummy bears with us instead of tips and distributed them in the city. you should have seen the children's eyes, so in our day and age you would give away a diamond watch. breathtaking and so beautiful
