Best things to do in Cairo
You can't swing a hookah in Cairo without striking archeological treasure! "The City of a Thousand Minarets" boasts not only stunning Ottoman mosques, but ancient wonders and a clash of modern and traditional cultures. Here's what to see.
1. Pyramid of Djoser
Book a day trip to this stepped tomb built by the earliest known architect, Imhotep. The Pyramid of Djoser has survived over 4 millenia, though all that remains of the Pharoah Djoser is his left foot!
2. Egyptian Museum of Antiquities
The museum boasts the world's largest collection of Egyptian antiquities, including Tutankhamen's solid gold death mask. Expect strict security measures, but it's truly a must-see!
3. Al-Azhar Park
Finished in 2005, it's already hard to imagine how the site of the breathtaking Al-Azhar Park was once a mountain of garbage accumulated over five centuries!
4. Al-Azhar Mosque
For a tour of Cairo's religious life and history, there's no better place to start than at the city's oldest mosque. Al-Azhar Mosque was built in 970AD and it's also home to the world's first university!
5. Khan Al-Khalili
Khan Al-Khalili,Cairo's most prominent souk (market), is as old as the Egyptian capital itself, and its economic heart still beats with tourists and locals alike!
6. Mosque of Muhammad Ali
Crowning its citadel is Cairo's most prominent landmark. Not only is the stunning Mosque of Muhammad Ali one of the best places to visit, it offers greats views of the city too.
7. Giza Necropolis
Though home to two of Cairo's most famous icons – the Great Pyramids and Sphinx – the Necropolis' best attraction might actually be the fascinating ancient workers' village.

What people are saying about Cairo
We spent a very special day with our guide, Maged, and our driver, Mustafa. The pick-up was timely, the car was clean and air conditioned. Maged was very knowledgeable about the monuments and history around that time. He answered all our questions and was clearly very passionate about ancient Egypt. He also took some amazing photos! After visiting the sites, we were taken to the 3 Pyramids Papyrus Institute, where we were left to peruse on our own. We were told that his store was regulated by the government, implying it was trustworthy. The artwork was beautiful and the lady who explained the process of making papyrus was pleasant. When it comes to the pricing, we paid much more than the regular value of the artwork. It seemed like the pricing was fixed, but it was not. At this point, Maged’s guidance would have been helpful. He did however again organize some gifts for us from the shop as a birthday gift, which was very nice of him. A similar situation occurred at a perfume store.
Mahmoud was a best tour guide for Pyramid tour! He was fun, we could make joke each other, made us feel comfortable. He could answer our any questions, full of acknowledges, very good at taking pictures that we didn’t need to worry about taking photos at the most famous place in the world. He bought us juice because I asked, introduced good local restaurants, he even cross the street together to go restaurants because crossing could be dangerous. Thanks Mahmoud! You made us a good memory and we felt lucky to meet you :)
I took a full day trip form Emo tours. My guide, Ola, was very professional and knowledgeable in her field. She explained and told a lot about the egyptian history. We also talked a lot about different cultures and Egypt in general. She is very passionate about her work, I highly recommend her as a tour guide. My driver Mahmoud did a great job taking us from places to places in the hectic traffic of Cairo. I felt safe during the whole your.
Absolutely amazing service! The driver (Mohamed) was at the hotel on time and he prepared water and snack in the car. He was extremely knowledgeable and made a very nice introduction for the places we visited along with safety tips on what to do or not to do. Fully flexible and made great suggestions on how to fulfill the day. I would definitely recommend this service to anyone wanting to experience the city with a private driver.
We had an amazing time at the Giza-Saqqara-Memfis tour. Our guide was Eslam Hanfi and the driver Mustafah Koty. If you want to have a great experience please contact these guys. They are more like friends than a tour guide and know a lot about Egyptian history. I highly recommend this company. Very happy we chose them!
