Full description
In the morning meet the guide in Bucharest. Leave the city on the route to Sinaia. Visit the Peles Castle, former summer residence of the kings of Romania. The Peles Castle is 44 kilometers away from Brasov in Sinaia, a well-known mountain resort as well. Nowadays the Castle is one of the most important museums in Transylvania where one can admire furniture and ornamental objects, carpets, tapestry, sculptures, paintings, and a weaponry collections from the 15th up to the 19th century. Continue the journey to Bran with it’s famous Bran castle. Also called Dracula`s Castle, it is situated not far from Brasov (25 kilometers) at the entrance in the Bran – Rucar passage. The first documentation about Bran Castle appeared in 1377. Throughout history, the Castle had a strategic mission of acting as a border between Transylvania and Wallachia. First it was under the rule of the King of Hungary Sigismund of Luxemburg, then under the Romanian voievodes Mircea cel Batran and Vlad Tepes and later on it came under the jurisdiction of the City of Brasov. In 1912 it was donated by the municipality of Brasov to the Romanian royal family and so it became their residence.

This is a tour that has "only" Peles Castle and Bran Castle as its destinations. It turned out to be the best possible choice for me, as I could only spend 2 days in Bucharest and this tour allowed me to visit two of the most significant buildings nearby, without getting too tired with 12 hour tours. They picked me up at 7:30 from my hotel and as our group consisted of only 3 people + 2 guides, we could only use one car and all travel was very fast. Our guide, Vlad, spoke well Italian and is a history buff: he gave us a lot of information without being boring. The visits to the castles were both very interesting and evocative, although they are completely different buildings: Peles, sumptuous and elegant, was the summer residence of the rulers while Bran, more austere, had strategic importance of control. At the end they took me back to the hotel. I would do it again!

It is the first time that I am on a tour where I am not the guide, and listening to Giorgio was exciting and also fun! Good at driving, even more in explaining the various anecdotes of Romania and the castles. The thing that struck me most was his frankness and sincerity in stating whether a place is worth the effort to be visited or not.
