Bogota: Food Tasting Tour and Coffee Workshop

1. Bogota: Food Tasting Tour and Coffee Workshop

Greet your guide at the Market Square district perseverance and start your food tour, carefully planned to give you insight into every corner of Bogota cuisine. First, head to a small local market where you'll try several different types of exotic fruits (some you've likely never heard of, let alone tasted!). Next, visit a local joint to sample cheesy melt-in-the-mouth corn arepas. For carnivores, there's no happier place than our next stop: a small hole-in-the-wall eatery, where you'll indulge in lechona — roasted and stuffed suckling pig with crunchy golden skin. At the next tucked-away restaurant, experience modern twists, including innovative takes on local ajiaco soup, gourmet ceviche accompanied and aguadiente (local firewater) cocktails. Walk down the streets of Old Town Bogota while your local guide recounts the city's stories and history. Famous among locals, the next stop is a bakery, which has been producing fine snacks served with aguapanela (panela water) since the 1930s. Continue through the streets of central Bogota and stop to try golden buñuelos, a deep-fried doughnut-like pastry paired with a local oatmeal smoothie called avena. Then, eat mouthwatering beef empanadas served with slices of lime and zingy local salsa. After, jump into one last restaurant, which has been serving hungry locals for almost two centuries. Here, try steamy leaf-wrapped chicken tamales with frothy hot chocolate.  Sign off the tour with a coffee workshop, where you'll learn the ins and outs of coffee production from three different areas of Colombia, see various methods of steeping, sample three different coffees and discover why the country produces and roasts some of the finest beans in the world.

What people are saying about Bogotá

If you have the opportunity to book this experience…DO IT!!! I can’t even put into words what a magical experience it was!! We learned about chocolate making, local fruit and were even able to make our own Bon Bons!!! Andrea, our guide, was awesome! She was upbeat and fun!! Juan, the chef and owner of Di Amato ( the location of the tasting) was knowledgeable and extremely friendly. He even went the extra mile to make my husband food AFTER his restaurant was closed!! The entire experience was like spending an evening with really cool friends eating unbelievably tasty food and chocolate items!! I highly recommend!!!

This is a wonderful tour full of information and interesting experiences. Juanita, the guide, did a great job explaining the rich history of La Candelaria. She's super friendly and nice. Walking around La Candelaria with its beautiful architecture is must in Bogotá. The Cacao and Coffee Workshop was an amazing learning experience. It took place at Cacao and Coffee House, where the very best examples of Colombian cacao and coffee can be tasted. The barista experience was informative and fun. I highly recommend this tour!

The guide was very nice, open and well versed in English. We walked to a chocolate shop where the owner was already waiting for us. First there was a short lecture about the family and their chocolate and then the production was explained. 5 different chocolates, various local fruits and the raw cocoa bean were tasted. You could make 3 pralines from the chocolate and fruit. We finished off with a hot chocolate and two Colombian pastries. I really liked it, also because I was alone with the guide :)

Andrea & Juan were fantastic. it was a truly wonderful experience. I recommend this to all!
