Five Things To See On a Hop-On Hop-Off Tour in Berlin

Don't let a wall come between you and the Berlin landmarks that interest you most. Hop-on hop-off bus tours let you sightsee at your own pace, but here are a few highlights to help you get started.

  • Museum Island

    1. Museum Island

Stop here to wander the lush, green Lustgarten as you admire Berlin's magnificent cathedral. Then, of course, there are the ornate Prussian buildings on the adjacent Museum Island!

  • Gendarmenmarkt

    2. Gendarmenmarkt

This former market square is still a tourist favorite, with the German and French Cathedrals mirroring each other on either side of the impressive Berlin Konzerthaus.

  • Palaces

    3. Palaces

Check out two drastically different palaces on your city tour, with Bellevue and Charlottenburg both occupying gardens on the south bank of the Spree River.

  • East Side Gallery

    4. East Side Gallery

The East Side Gallery is a surviving section of the Berlin Wall. It's considered an international monument to freedom, with graffiti murals stretching 80 meters from the Oberbaum Bridge to Ostbahnhof station.

  • Unter den Linden

    5. Unter den Linden

See the iconic Brandenburg Gate before riding up Unter den Linden boulevard towards Humboldt University and the Bebelplatz book-burning memorial.

Planning Your Visit

  • How much does it cost?

Hop-on hop-off bus tours of Berlin are one of the cheapest methods of sightseeing across the city. Prices start at €15 for a single day's touring, with the cost scaled down for additional days.

  • Where else do they stop?

You'll find most places of interest covered by the city tour buses, but routes and stops differ depending on the tour provider. Any good bus tour should provide you with routes and itineraries prior to booking.

The tour to the Seelow Heights is worth seeing and I would recommend to the guests of Berlin to include it into travel program. The historical aspects of WWII are complex and sometimes hard to apprehend, but Matthew, is a very knowledgeable guide with a great personal interest in this field of history, uncovers hidden details while perfectly giving overview of the past events. Any weather would accompany the story, but I was lucky to admire the beautiful Brandenburg area under the sun. All promises of the travel program have been met thanks to the well-organized guide. It was a great day with the new impressions and unexpected discoveries of what, I thought, I have already known.

This was an exceptionally good battlefield tour run by an excellent guide. The Covid situation meant that there were only myself and a friend that day and he must have barely covered his overheads but nevertheless did not cancel the tour. This was the last battle of WW2 and the cost was indescribably huge on both sides. The guide not only describes the tactics so well and lucidly he brings to life the terrible story of the tragic human carnage. Matthew was so good and we were so impressed with his professional expertise we booked him for a private tour later in our visit.

Great tour! The perfect way to see the festival of lights. Be sure to bring something to drink to enjoy along the way - if you forget, they'll also stop so you can get something along the way. The guide was very personable and quite funny

Our guide had amazing energy and catered to everyone’s languages on the bus (english, german, italian). Staff was very friendly. The whole tour was about 2 hours.

Tour bus starting place good, driver very professional and audioguide was nicely informative.
