Caye Caulker: Hol Chan Marine Reserve Small-Group Tour

1. Caye Caulker: Hol Chan Marine Reserve Small-Group Tour

Discover the wide variety of lush marine life in the Hol Chan Marine Reserve. Get your heart racing by snorkeling with sharks and stingrays on the second-largest barrier reef in the world. Receive GoPro pictures after your tour to relive your experience with friends and family. Meet your group at the meeting point on Caye Caulker island, then take a 30-minute boat ride along the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef to the Hol Chan Marine Reserve. Hol Chan has been a marine reserve since May 2, 1987, and covers almost 7 square miles (18 square kilometers). Some areas are only about 5 feet (around 1.5 meters) deep, while the channel is about 30 feet (just over 9 meters) deep. Once at the reserve, choose whether to observe the abundant marine life from the boat or take the adrenaline rush of jumping in and exploring the amazing underwater world. If snorkeling, keep on the lookout for brain coral, star coral, sharks, stingrays, turtles, pufferfish, eels, parrotfish, angel fish, barracuda, and even the seasonal manatee. Spend around 45 minutes exploring the vast variety of fish species at the first site. Follow this with the opportunity to snorkel with sharks and stingrays in Shark Ray Alley, then enjoy snorkeling with the majestic sea turtle. At the end of the tour, head back to the peaceful island of Caye Caulker where you began.

2. Belize City: Lamanai Maya Ruins & River Boat Safari w/ Lunch

Meet your guide at the Cruise Ship Terminal or in your hotel lobby, depending on the option selected. Relax as you board the air-conditioned vehicle and set off for a 1-hour road trip. Along the way enjoy views of the old Belize river, rural villages, fruit trees, and birds. When you arrive at the dock, board your boat for the 1-hour cruise on the New River. Be sure to watch for iguanas, crocodiles, turtles, birds, and water-lilies. At the Lamania Maya Site, your guide will lead you on a walk through the rainforest, scattered with ancient structures, to arrive at the Mask Temple. Your guide will share in-depth archeological information about the site. The Lamania Maya site is known for being the longest continually-occupied site in Mesoamerica. The thriving crocodile population in the nearby New River lagoon gave Lamanai its name. Lamanai is the Spanish historic name for Lama’ an/ayin, which means “submerged crocodile.” Many of the site's main structures and excavated artifact exhibits represent the famed reptile. You'll have the chance to climb to the summit of the highest temple and see the awesome view of northern Belize and the lagoon. Then continue your walk through the Ball Court, Stelas, the Jaguar temple, stelae, and residential buildings. What people are saying about Belize District

This was our favorite tour of the many we took. Lamanai has many structures/temples all within a mile of each other. The entire place was kept up very nice and very beautiful. Carlos, our tour guide, was extremely knowledgeable and passionate about the history of the Mayan people. Do this tour!!

Great small group tour, absolutely worth experiencing! The organization was also great - they tried to get us to Lamanai ahead of the big groups (which worked). The return trip was adjusted to match the departure of our ship, also great.

Our driver and guide Coconut Pete were knowledgeable and great. There was no rush. The speedboat tour of the river wildlife was a plus. These guys are knowledgeable naturalists, historians, and awesome tour guides.

Such an amazing experience! We saw so much marine life and our guides were great. Highly recommend this company

Absolutely awesome, the entire experience was worth every dollar spent!
