Full description
Visit Marajó Island in the north of Brazil and enjoy majestic rivers, beautiful beaches, exotic food, and fascinating local culture. Choose between a day trip to Souré and Salvaterra and start the day with a boat ride across the awe-inspiring Pará River. Souré Trip: Arrive by boat at Camará Port and head straight to Araruna Farm. There you’ll learn about buffalo farming and the importance of these huge animals to the local population. In fact, you may even see the police officers of the area riding a buffalo on patrol. After a snack break, visit a ceramics and buffalo leathercraft center before continuing on to Pesqueiro Beach. Relax by the beach, enjoy the waves as the Pará River meets the Atlantic Ocean and take time for a bit of lunch (not included).  Salvaterra Trip: Arrive by boat at Salvaterra and continue to the Rural Tourism Unit Açaí Nativo (UTRAN) to learn about buffalo raising and breeding. Stop at Toca do Açaí and learn all about açaí, the delicious purple Amazon fruit. From there, continue to the shores of Salvaterra and unwind on beautiful Grande Beach. Cool off with a swim, relax by the sand, then sit back as you’re taken back to Belém.

We were picked up at our hotel on time by our guide Ulisses and a driver. Ulisses English was aduquate. He answered our questions but didn't offer a lot of other information. We enjoyed the buffalo farm where we had fun riding one and being pulled around in a cart. We had a snack of fresh rolls with buffalo butter-really good, buffalo cheese-very bland, small cookies, fruit and juice. We next visited a leather worker's shop where he explained the process from buffalo hide to finished products, which he offered for sale. Next a short stop at a handicraft store with more things to buy. Final stop, an hour on the beach where we could buy our lunch which was not included in the tour price. Then back to the dock for the return to Belem. In the morning we had an express boat that made the crossing in 2 hours. The return boat was slower, 3 hours, followed by a 1 hour drive to our hotel. It was hot on the ferry. Ulisses paid extra for us to sit in the VIP section with AC which we appreciated.
