Full description
Be picked up from your Barcelona accommodations in the morning and enjoy the most exclusive views of this spectacular natural setting, the Holy Mountain. This rocky monument is known for the whimsical shapes of its peaks soaring through the sky, its valleys and caves, giving an appearance of mysterious beauty. The mountain, 2,380 feet above sea level and surrounded by magnificent scenery, is home to the Benedictine Monastery of Santa Maria de Montserrat, which you will visit on this tour. This religious site includes the Basilica, where you’ll see the Virgin of Montserrat, known as the Black Madonna. This is a venerated 12th-century Romanesque carving characterized by its unique dark color, hence the nickname. After visiting the monastery, your guide will take you on a walking tour to take in the stunning views from the site that was declared a national park in 1987. Next, you’ll visit the Holy Cave, where legend has it the Virgin appeared. It is now a center of pilgrimage and prayer. To conclude the tour, you can enjoy listening to the angelic voices of La Escolania de Montserrat, one of the oldest children's choirs in Europe. You will return to Barcelona with the guide at around 2:30 PM if you take the morning tour, or at 8:30 PM if you take the afternoon tour.

Arnie was the best on our 1/2 day trip to Montserrat. I think the half day is a perfect amount of time for anyone who wants to see this magical place but also plan other things for their day. Our small group (8 max) was great. We took the cable car up the mountain which was a wonderful surprise. We had an opportunity to hike to the cross (Do It), do a little shopping & just explore. Arnie was funny, knowledgeable & had other helpful tips for the remainder of our trip. We were happy with our experience. And pick up & drop off at our hotel was so nice. Thank you Arnie & maybe we will see you again someday.

Marco was very accommodating and wanted to make sure everyone in the group had a good time. He took the hike with us all the way to the cross (which I recommend if you are in shape and don’t mind very steep inclines. He answered all of our questions and gave us great suggestions for our stay in Barcelona. He was very knowledgeable about the history of Montserrat as well.

Awesome service. Frequent emails prior to the trip to give us pickup info and guide contact info. Joan picked us up at the hotel and he was awesome. The tour was more than we expected. The drive alone up to the mountain was worth it. We were able to watch a little of the mass. Since it was Saturday, the boys choir does not sing. So Joan got a song sheet and sung for us the song of Monserat that all the kids learn. It was a wonderful day. He was flexible to our desires and watched over everyone like family.
