Full description

Experience Bali from the top of its most famous mountain on a private overnight camping adventure at Mt. Batur. Towering 1,717 meters above sea level, the volcanic mountain is the 2nd highest point on the island. Get the most out of the experience with mountain hikes, and spend the night under a canopy of stars at the summit.

Day 1:

Depart in the afternoon at approximately 12:30 PM, and journey to the village of Toya Bungkah on Mt. Batur. Hike for approximately 2 hours, depending on the number of hikers and their physical condition. Then, set up your tents when you reach an altitude of 1,500 meters above sea level. At approximately 18:00, hike for about 14 to 20 minutes to the summit of Mt. Batur, and watch a majestic sunset at the top of the volcano. Enjoy a simple meal (typically banana cooked using the steam of the volcano) along with hot Balinese coffee and tea. Then, return to camp to cook dinner and make a campfire to sit around and try some of the local

wines. Toast the end of the day and make a wish for clear skies to see the moon and the stars and enjoy a magnificent sunrise the following day.

Day 2:

Wake early to watch the sunrise from the mountain. Pack up all your camping gear before the early morning tourists arrive. A porter will be on hand to take care of the equipment while you watch the beautiful colors of purple, orange, pink and red appear in the sky. Marvel as the sky changes from black to blue while the clouds dissipate and re-form due to temperature changes caused by the rising sun. Get panoramic views of the ocean in the distance as the day begins. On a clear day, you can easily see Mt. Rinjani on the neighboring island of Lombok. Then, hike to the 3 main craters of the volcano and see some of the recent black lava flow. End at the natural hot springs of Batur, where you can relax and recharge your mind with the help of Mother Nature. Customize your experience with add-ons from coffee tasting to traditional massage. Some add-ons are only available for some options.

We did this trip over new years and were extremely unlucky with weather as it was rainy and windy during both sunset and sunrise so instead of beautiful view we only got to see fog. Despite that we did enjoy this experience as celebrating new year on a volcano was pretty special anyways. Our guide was good and we enjoyed the food. There are few things we want to mention to make other people feel more prepared and the company to fix few issues. It was VERY cold on top. We had extra warm clothes, but our shoes were entirely wet, so bring an extra pair (at least flip flops to wear with socks). No warm jackets were provided (despite description). Tents and sleeping bags are very old, some have holes inside, so cold and wet again. We felt like there was not enough directions as we got on top. Our guides left us for a good 2 hours, tents were not ready, so everyone had to sit there all wet. Would be good to keep wood for fire INSIDE the hut in case of rain.

We climbed and camped overnight on Mr Batur in heavy rain and winds on a bitterly cold night. Whilst the weather was no one’s fault, it was not a surprise yet we felt the guides were not prepared for it and communication was poor. Having arrived at the top, soaking, we then sat around for three hours waiting for some cold fried chicken to be brought up the mountain. We were having to tell people to get out of their wet clothing, and people were shivering. The tents were badly put up and poor condition - mine had a large hole in the side and the outer blew away in the night. We were given a thin fleece blanket and no sleeping bag. Overall this was actually a memorable experience and the guides were really good with our kids on the hike, age 10, 9 and 8. However, a few improvements to the kit (and some better food) would make a massive difference to the overall experience and the value of the package. We loved the volcanic springs on the way back down!

Our guide, Sade, was very good! Tents, sleeping bag, post-hike snack, dinner and breakfast were provided as well as headlights and water. It was a good decision climb up in the afternoon (3-5pm) then camp overnight and wake up (5am) for the sunrise instead of hike up Mount Batur in the wee hours of the morning.
