Full description
The tour begins with a breathtaking drive along the scenic coastal road. During this relaxing ride you’ll enjoy splendid views of the Saronic Gulf while passing through some of Athen's most beautiful suburbs; Glyfada, Vouliagmeni, and Varkiza. Arrive at Cape Sounion, a historic and beautiful area of Greece. The steep cliffs offer a breathtaking, panoramic view, and on a clear day you can look out to some of Greece's beautiful isles. In addition to the views, look forward to visiting the 5th-century B.C. Temple of Poseidon. God of the Sea, Poseidon was second only to Zeus in Greek mythology. Made of white marble, the columns still stand today as a reminder of the Athenian Empire. The trip will conclude with a relaxing drive back to Athens after having experienced the sights and architecture of ancient Greece.

Can’t fault the temple itself! Absolutely beautiful!! Problem was with the company (keytours). Booked nearly a month before, included pickup from hotel, confirmation email recieved. Less then 24hours notice- recieved email, collecting from another hotel (10mins from own hotel). Contacted GYG (replied v quickly and helpful) Keytours didn’t care, said they can’t collect me due to area to small (should of stated at booking or outside of 24hrs so I could change). So went to another hotel waited for 50mins after the time stated! No apology!! Then on the way back, didn’t even drop me off at the other hotel, said that’s as close as they can get!!! Not happy!! Very disappointed! Don’t charge for hotel Pickup if you can’t be bothered!!

Great tour. Good group to go with. The actual site is kind of “bleh” once you’ve seen all of the other ruins in Athens, IMHO. But the tour group did a great job giving some history of the city of Athens, the areas we were driving through, and some other cool tidbits throughout the drive.

The guide Dimitrios made this half day tour. The commentary about the suburbs of Athens as we left the city was fascinating. Then as we drove along the coast it turned to the Greek and Roman cultures, and the significance of Cape Sounion to the Athenians. Once at the Temple IOC Poseidon, and the base of the Temple if Athena, Dimitrios continued with the historical context of the area, and the impact firstly if the Athenian in the area, and its political, military and religious significance; but the impact of the Roman occupation. A tour by a passionate local is always a great way to connect with contemporary and ancient societies.
