Full description
Meet your guide at the Halandri Metro Station and journey to Delphi via bus. As you drive towards Delphi, you’ll see the sacred site emerge from two terraced rocks known as Fedriades.  Discover what the ancient Greeks called “the navel of the earth.” Visit the Oracle of Delphi, the holiest site in ancient Greece. For centuries, great figures of ancient history such as Alexander the Great and Cicero sought out the high priestess of Delphi’s divine prophecy. The Oracle would sit upon a tripod above a massive chasm. As she burned barley meal and laurel she would enter a divine trance and then serve as a medium to the god Apollo. Drink water from the sacred Castalia spring. Explore the archaeological museum of Delphi, and see artifacts from the Archaic through the Roman era, including the Sphinx of the Naxians, the Iniohos, and the statue of Antinoos. Afterward, enjoy a delicious homemade lunch at a nearby restaurant. Before returning to Athens, see the picturesque village of Arachova nestled in the foothills of Mt. Parnassus.

Our driver/guide Athena met us at the Halandri Metro station and we were off - stuck in Athens traffic for 30+ minutes to get to a moving highway. I guess Halandri is no longer enough to cleanly escape Athens - perhaps a train to Thiva or even Amfikleia might be a better option. We were a small group of 8 on this occasion which was intimate and nice but this tour supports up to 40 guests we were told. After short coffee break en-route and a detailed briefing from our resident historian archeologist Athena, we arrived at the first of several stops in Temple of Apollo with just about the right amount of time to climb up the hill to explore the sights and tour the excellent museum before driving to the temple of Athena Pronaia Sanctuary (Tholos) for a shorter visit. Lunch was good and so was Arachova. Nice about this tour compared to others was that we didn't waste time navigating hotels and city center traffic so had more time for sights. We were also first to the sights. Excellent.

10/10 eideutig

This is a well-designed tour. Our tour guide was competent, friendly, and had a good sense of humor. The focus was on Delphi but we got to see quite a bit of the surrounding area as well. I also enjoyed the stops in the cafe and restaurant. I will take this tour again next time I visit Athens.
