Full description
Meet your private guide, an experienced archeologist, and then start your unique combination of a tour. Enter from the south slope of the acropolis and set off on your leisurely walking tour of some of the world’s finest monuments. Along the way, listen as your guide shares knowledgeable insight of the citadel’s ruins including excavation details. Visit the Theater of Dionysus — an amphitheater that is arguably the birthplace of performing arts. Perch yourself on one of the stone seats to imagine the sights and sounds experienced by ancient theatergoers who came to watch plays by Greek writers Aeschylus, Sophocles and Euripides. Also pass the Odeon of Herodes Atticus; the theater is still used today during the Athens Festival from May to October. Find peace and quiet at an asclepius — a healing temple that honored the god of medicine Asclepius, before continuing to one of the most recognized buildings on the planet: the Parthenon. Meander around the perimeter of the temple to learn more about how it was constructed for the goddess Athena. Once you familiarize yourself with the site's classical architecture, head indoors to the New Acropolis Museum for a brief break and refreshments (at own expense) in the cafe. Ranked one of the top five museums in the world, the New Acropolis Museum boasts collections of statues and other relics of everyday life in several galleries. In the Gallery of the Slopes of the Acropolis, the glass floor occasionally reveals an archeological excavation site.

Our tour with Marisa was fantastic. She has excellent English, is easily understood, answered all our questions patiently, and made the time pass quickly with many fun stories. (Even my 10 and 12 yr old boys who were grumpy tired by the end of the walk—mostly due to the heat—engaged as she told the myths.) My favorite part of the tour was her passion as she talked about the people who built the acropolis and it’s various statues, friezes, etc. She was able to impress on me the humanity of these ancient Athenians. She really made it relatable and I left the tour reflective on “why” and “how” I do things that are important to me.

This guide is a must do if you are going to tour the Acropolis. I had no idea about the history and what I was viewing. Maritza was amazing and helped explain everything in a fun way. I had an 18 year old with me who hates museums but she was asking questions and said this was here favorite part of our trip to Athens. Matriza was helpful and kind. She took great photos of out party and was a joy to have around. If I owned a travel company I would hire her on the spot.

Our tour guide was excellent is so many ways!! She remembered all our names, 15+ travelers, She was energetic, even with the extreme heat with one of the hottest days in Athens this year, highly knowledgeable, and very focused on ensuring everyone was as comfortable as possible due to the heat. She added ways for the travelers to participate and bring more excitement to the overall tour. I struggled with the heat towards the end and she was checking to ensure I was ok and if needed she would get medical assistance. One of the best guided tours I have done and our tour guide made the difference. The guided tour is the best way to visit & learn about the Acropolis and Museum as a traveler will gain more insight to many important items.
