From Antigua: Pacaya Volcano Trek

1. From Antigua: Pacaya Volcano Trek

Walk for 2 hours to the summit of Pacaya Volcano and enjoy stunning views. Leave from Antigua for a 1-hour bus journey to the volcano's base before immediately starting your 2-hour trek with your local guide. Hike through wonderful pine forests up to the trickier volcanic ash section and finally to the sulfur smoking cone. On occasions you can even see small eruptions and lava flowing, depending on the activity of the volcano. From the summit you can enjoy great views of the nearby volcanoes, Agua, Fuego and Acatenango, the pacific lowlands and all the way to El Salvador. To ensure your safety you won’t be able to visit the crater, but you will get an amazing view of red-hot lava flowing and steam baths created by the heat of Pacaya. Take a break and relax here as you take in more scenic views before hiking back to the base of the volcano, from where you will transfer back to your accommodation.

What people are saying about Antigua Guatemala

It was a very great experience. The hike has some steep areas but overall it was a moderate hike. I loved the views from up there and our guide was excellent. You’re able to rent horses on the way up if you’d like, I am unsure about the cost since I didn’t do it. We ate heated marshmallows up there and the group I was with was so cool. I enjoyed this experience very much and would do it again.

Our guide was great! Wish I remembered his name... the only part that was not so great was the shuttle pickup in Antigua...They really packed in as many people as they could in the shuttle so it was not very comfortable. Other than that it was definitely worth the money spent.

The driver was neatly waiting for me at the exit of the airport and immediately taken to his car. Very nice chat during the ride and immediately learned more about Guatemala.

We had a great Spanish speaking tour with a great guide (Dario). Punctual, very informative and at a good price. Recommended

I recommend. Well organized & very professional tour guide
