3. Algarve: Full-Day Coastal Tour by SUV

Here, along the Costa Vicentina, you can feast your eyes on the wild beauty of the pristine beaches pounded by the turbulent Atlantic and backed by majestic cliffs. The Southwest Alentejo Natural Park and Vicentine Coast extends from Vila Nova de Milfontes to Burgau, encompassing about 80 km of coastline. Leaving the bustle of the southern coast of the Algarve behind at Lagos we head northwards through unspoilt countryside and along the coast to our first stop – the beaches of Amado and Carrapateira which offer stunning views of the vast horizon and the unforgiving cliffs. Here you can fill your lungs with the purest air imaginable. We journey on to the ancient town of Aljezur which is marked by the brooding presence of the Moorish castle which sits atop a hill, affording spectacular views of the surrounding countryside.

Cork Farm: 4x4 Cork Tour with Optional Lunch

4. Cork Farm: 4x4 Cork Tour with Optional Lunch

The farm you will visit is a paradise for walkers, ramblers, and wine lovers. Imagine exploring this world of rolling hills, cork forests, olive groves, and vineyards in a landscape occasionally broken by a medieval fortress or an abandoned chapel. For six generations, the family owners have made a living on the 1,400-acre estate in the Alentejo by sustainably managing cork forests, rearing sheep, and making fine wines. You're invited to share the joy of their lives and see the beauty of the surrounding countryside. Nature-lovers and birdwatchers will not be disappointed. With luck, you might see or come across an Egyptian mongoose, a bustard, a wild boar,  a hoopoe, a bee-eater, a booted eagle, or many more species. On arrival at the meeting point (our winery in the industrial zone of Redondo), you will be introduced to your guide Joana. Start with a nice cup of tea, coffee, or cool refreshment. Then your guide will take you on a beautiful 2-hour Jeep tour in a 4x4 wheel into the deepest parts of the cork forest. During your tour, she will explain to you everything about the cork trees, cork cycle (cork stripping, cork storage, cork manufacturing). You will also learn about local fauna and flora, vineyards, Iberian pig fattening, olive groves, and all the farm activities. When you return to the winery, visit the shop where you can find the finest products including cork handicrafts, olive oil, and of course, their wines. Later, have a cork stripper's traditional three-course meal in a quiet family-run restaurant. After this, it will be time to go home with the best memories of the Alentejo.

Arrábida National Park Rock Climbing Experience

5. Arrábida National Park Rock Climbing Experience

Arrábida National Park is one of the most beautiful places to climb in Portugal. This climbing area is adjacent to a beach, the “Portinho da Arrábida”, with a privileged view over the ocean, the mountains, and the beginning of the Alentejo coast.  There are several climbing possibilities here, regardless of the level and experience of the participants.  At the start of the activity, walk along a scenic path down to the base of the rocks that will be climbed. Then you will have a quick introduction to rock climbing, climbing equipment, and basic safety rules before the climbing commences. After the climb you will return to the vehicles and visit the "José Maria da Fonseca" wine cellars where you will taste some delicious wine.

What people are saying about Alentejo, Portugal

We had a blast with Nelson, he was an excellent guide. This tour was fantastic, an amazing way to experience the Algarve coast. The jumps were progressively increased in a way that allowed you to feel comfortable going to the next height up. Be sure you are comfortable climbing, obviously not afraid of heights, and in good physical condition. The only recommendation I would have for improvement would be to find a way to provide water or to allow for clients to bring their own as I found I was very thirsty by the end of the tour.

We were staying in Lagos and met up with our guide Nelson in Raposeira. From the meeting point we drove 5 minutes up to the cost. We got suited up with our gear and started our fun. Jumping, climbing, jumping, climbing and this continued until we made it to 10 meters. Nelson, was a fantastic guide, he cared about our comfort and our safety. What a fantastic day!!!

Well organised. Meeting instructions simple and easy to follow. Relaxed approach but safety maintained at all times

Excellent guidance while having an amazing experience. Would reccomend 100%!

Amazing experience and guide I can only recommend this activity!
