Full description

Cycle through the trails of the majestic woodland area along the Rio Grande on an electric bike tour. Learn about the history of the area from your local guide and hear how the agricultural and water management system grew in the area. Visit community-based farms and the Rio Grande Nature Center State Park en route.

Begin your tour in the center of Albuquerque, which was founded in 1706. Hear how in the 1700s farmers were given tracts of land (or ranchos) along the Rio Grande’s banks. Explore how these tracts have been transformed over time into community farms and natural areas. Learn how the Rio Grande River is the fourth longest river system in the United States and has a rich history. Early settlers embraced these life-giving waters, developing an intricate system of acequias to sustain, nourish, and grow their crops. Visit farms that still practice the acequias’ water flow techniques. And go to the Rio Grande Nature Center State Park to catch an important glimpse of the river’s natural history, as well as for an exclusive wildlife viewing of some of the species that call the bosque home. Then, head to Los Poblanos Inn and Organic Farm, a historic inn and working farm, founded in 1934. This dynamic property employs regional farming practices that are hundreds of years old combined with innovative and modern agricultural technologies. Onsite at Los Poblanos, take advantage of visiting The Farm Shop and their boutique which sells their signature products. Don’t miss their Grosso lavender field for an aromatherapeutic walk to soothe your soul.
