Full description

Take a hike through Samaria Gorge with pickup in Malia and Heraklion. Trek through this impressive gorge, known for being the longest in Europe. Make a stop at the Plateau of Omalos, admire the mountains of the gorge, and take an unforgettable journey through Cretan nature.

Get picked up in the morning from your designated pickup point and head towards Omalos. Once there, make sure you have all the equipment and take the chance to buy some supplies before entering into the gorge.

Begin the trek, and feel the impressiveness of the longest gorge in Europe. Take in the surrounding views of the White Mountains, admire the small river that runs through it, and catch sight of the Cretan wild goats, commonly known as Kri-Kri.

At the exit, find yourself by the Libyan Sea in the village of Agia Roumeli. Explore this beautiful and isolated village, nestled between huge rocks and the expansive sea. Enjoy a relaxing and refreshing swim at the beach, and have some lunch in a small local tavern.

Later, embark on a boat that takes you back to Chora Sfakion. There, catch the bus that returns back to the resort.

An amazing and memorable day. An early start, a late finish, but completely worth it. Our advice, good walking shoes (boots if you have room in your suitcase!) are a must, as its a rough old path most of the way. You can top up your water bottle at plenty of stops on the way, so you don't need to carry everything you need for the day from the start.

The hike is great, beautiful place, beginner in hiking and I loved it not so hard even if the next day huge aches but the service is expensive. That is to say that it is just transport by bus. We must add the boat and the gorges. The end is great arriving on a beach to be able to relax.

Its gorges are a must if you come to Crete and especially if you like hiking. Being a beginner level hiker, the trek was quite hard to do but the landscapes make up for the difficulty. The landscapes are exactly the same as in photos. Count 16 kilometers from the start to the ferry, including 13 in the nature reserve. During the whole excursion, you are free and without a guide. Regarding the price, it is quite excessive for what it is. The €50 you pay only concerns the transfer between your hotel and the gorges, and vice versa. The entrance to the caves and the boat are paying; so count in total (if you don't buy anything else on the side like drinks, from sandwiches…) 67€ for the complete excursion. I recommend to do his throats but the price remains excessive.
