It was a little confusing at the beginning finding the guide due to a lot of groups around and a crowded area. We had 2 guides, 1 directly from the museum who only spoke polish and a translater as second guide. The tour was great and informative though we didn't enter every possible building around, but you could have at the end of the tour by yourselves. The buildings are not filled with too much information which is good because it focuses on the atmosphere and important pictures / Findings and so on. Birkenau as second spot is a 5 minute car drive away. It is huge but a lot of the buildings are destroyed by now, still gives an impressive view on how insane this death camp had been.

Got there before dawn to dodge the queues

An easy train ride and got there about 8:20am before opening to dodge the queues. Really recommend going through the palace first before it gets insanely busy then walk around the gardens - if it is a fountain day schedule yourself to see both sessions as they are so spread out you will not have time to appreciate them in just one go.

Nice hike but definitely too short! It is passed off as a 2.5 hour visit but in reality we entered at 1.15pm and the guide let us go at 2.52pm!! We also need to consider the 7 minute break taken 15 minutes before the end of the visit which in my opinion is misleading because you think you still have 1h available! For the rest, the visit was beautiful, interesting and the guide excellent!
